Grace Of Unity

I was thinking what kind of place made me feel the most peaceful...a place that brought me inner peace. Just by being alone with that place. Apart from places like the beach, forest, lakes and mountains, I like this one place very much...and that's the church. Churches always made me relax, feel peaceful and in one with my spirit. It's so beautiful a feeling to sit inside a church and realise how thoughts just flow into your head without you thinking them. Have you noticed that? How tranquil, effortless, wonderful and loving thoughts come into your head when you sit at a place like that. How you feel that the whole world is such a beautiful place and that we can live as one if we really didn't think only about ourselves. How you feel that there's nothing that you can't conquer in this world if there's love in your heart. How the statues, tinted windows and the big walls speak to you in many intriguing ways. How the voices in your head tell you that you are only a small being of this very big world but that you have a huge part to play. You don't really need to be in a specific place to feel that way but some places strengthen that feeling. And a church is that place for me.

I went to a Methodist school and even though I'm a Buddhist/Hindu by birth I always went for morning prayers in the school chapel (after general assembly). Sometimes when I had to do Prefect duties I had to go to the church by myself when no one else was there. I always enjoyed going up this enchanting spiral staircase of that chapel which had glass walls on both sides with Christian art on them. It's such a special place that made me feel like I was walking up to God's living room for tea, and that the angels were chatting and having fun up there already. Words wont do justice to the emotions and the amazing grace I felt there while looking at Mother Mary holding baby Jesus with a face that portrayed endless and unconditional love. I felt one with God. And I'm not even a Christian by birth. Maybe because I'm a child of that one God which most people try to divide. I can never see Buddha, Krishna, Mohammed, Jesus or any other divinity separately. To me they are all one - just many manifetsations of one. Just like how this world is full of people but we all have the same body, soul, needs and feelings...we all wanna be heard...we are all born and we all die...we are all children of this Earth. We are many but we are one. God bless this world!

What kind of place(s) make you feel the oneness of the world?

~~Hey you, you're a child in my head
You haven't walked yet
Your first words have yet to be said
But I swear you'll be blessed...~~

Great Words and so true! And its all in the eyes of people who see this! After all its the belief that you cling on to that makes your life more lovelier and enlightening! Belief is the apt 6 letter word that makes sixth sense humans rejoice their life!

Religious places are always peaceful because of the architecture.. High ceilings .. open spaces.. the quite atmosphere..
There is a certain "energy" level in these places and we get more "body speace"
Let me explain body space..
Have you ever wondered why we do not talk much to each other while in a crowded elevator..
We all need some space around our bodies to make us comforatble.. When we havethis space.. we can speak and think openly..

Even in a temple/church/ mosque.. if there is too much of a crowd.. or noise.. you would not feel peaceful..

I also feel peaceful in my bedroom.. I have designed it in a way (especially the colours) to provide serenity..

Best way to relax.. is sit in an upright pose with crossed legs and breathe slowly.. Concentrate on the breat.. feel the cold air going in and the warm air coming out.. after sometime.. you forget everything else.. That's the first lesson in meditation using yoga.. try this every morning and see the energy around you !!

Speaking of Places of Worship...I find all of them Peaceful IF the place is less noisy..usually they put some Bhajans and all & loudspeakers ...which takes away the serenity of the place...

ohh Keshi I just love visiting Churches...esp the old gothic ones...love the architecture...ur post reminds me of my school Church in Mumbai..Mount Mary Church....

I have this fantasy to get married again *to the same person ofcourse :P * in some beautiful Church in Greece.....:-)

** I felt one with God.

WOW ... now should I start preaching Keshi Keshi ;)) he he!!!

fortunately or unfortunately no religious place gives me that feel ... all but one where I'd been going since childhood ... it not coz of the god there ... but coz a major part of my lifetime I spent around there ... my mum used to take me there regularly, ironically am more regular now ... now that hanuman idol is the only one I see with aww ... even tho just a stone ... n I *never* see another idol or god the way I see him

our appartment terrace (previous house) is the place where I had such a feel (unless its tranquil n humid) ... the water tank was the highest in our locality, just short of the ashok pillar

the place leaves me in absolute bliss ... the strong evening sea breeze ... pressing against me n fluttering my loose clothing ... standing there overlooking the entire area and beyond ... watching the sunset and the city sink into darkness ... its an amazing feeling ... its when the more rational thoughts pour in @ the peak of my composure ;)

You know what? I don't think I have a place like that. I have never found a place I can go and completely relax and forget about life.

I have never been religious, so the church has never done it for me. To me, they are just buildings - like schools, malls, or houses.

Are you lucky that you have places like that, or am I unlucky that I don't?

Yes it is always good to go to a place which offers peace and we can get some doubts and things out of our mind and try to work out things which really do matter.
I believe most religious things offer that peace.

The kinda places that makes me feel the oneness of the world are
1. Beach (facing the waves) - I have experienced it so many times, whenever I feel troubled or sad or happy I love watching the waves hitting the shore...when I keep watching, lots of things go in my mind and finally when I go back from there I feel very light.
2. Alone in a balcony in a high raised building watching traffic - this too make me feel similar to the experience that I get in the beach.

very true keshi. i feel the same abt old churches with those colorful float glass windows and lovely old world charm - i feel a strange kind of peace there. like u am a born hindu but i prefer to look at one god above all.

i definitely dont like to go a crowded places except if its for shopping :). I really feel my best when am in a quiet spot all by myself be it a beach side, a green lush hill, a river side or in the open under the night sky.

Hi keshi,
I feel the most at peace and a oneness with the world when I am walking very early in the morning, when it is still dark and I am completely alone with my
thoughts.I feel the peace of the awakening day which I am so grateful to be a part of.

The peace of the early dawm might
cause my soul to shiver when I see all the beauty of nature and life
around me.

I do not often feel this type of peace in a building even though there might be a feeling of peace there also.
I have to be a part of nature to feel this oneness with the world and myself.

This is a wonderful post!
Take care Keshi!
Have a great weekend!
Going dancing again???

Well, i think few places do make you feel tranquil and at peace. I too studied in a methodist school, but we didnot have a church inside school premises, we used to walk down the lane and then go to the church every sunday.

I have always enjoyed hiking, so anytime when i have to climb a hill or any place, just sitting on the top, feeling the hard wind on your face and looking at the world, realizing how you exist in there and how much you belong there... at those times, i cant think of myself, i dont really know what i think of, whatever it is, it makes me happy and at peace!

What kind of place(s) make you feel the oneness of the world?

You will actually be surprised with my answer.

For me, the oneness of the world is felt on soccer stadiums in London. Do you know that virtually people from every country play in the English Premier League. And when they score a goal, they all go hug each other and celebrate without worrying about their race, creed, citizenship or color!! That’s what I like about English soccer!

And that to me symbolizes oneness of the world!

Sorry if this sounds a bit childish, I am a kid at heart!

I never think of putting sound there, that silent make my learning easy. Hi Kesh...

While I no longer go to church, there is something very special about it, I admit.

I was brought up Roman Catholic and was an altar boy and the whole shebang. When I became an adult, it became less of a force in my life.

Now I look at the church as a man-made institution and that as such, it contains many things I loathe: politics, a we're right you're wrong mentality, a whole bunch of other purely judgmental things.

But that doesn't take away entirely from the feeling I had being there, while I was there.

I just choose to have those feelings outside of that institution.

And I fully respect your right and anyone else's to have those feelings in that place.

Personally, I tend to have those feelings when I'm alone and outside in the trees and away from everything else and just by myself, where I can think and look around and see the beauty surrounding me.

I hope you hold on to the ability to have the feelings you describe. When people lose that, they might as well have lost everything.

but then again, i am very comfortable in my room...when I am ALONE! (that is soooo rare!) when I can sit/lie...and just thinkk...!

I don't frequent temples, churches...unless i am visiting a specific place (diff city etc) and there is a famous shrine. My relationship with God is very personal and not defined by any set ritual or faith...I enjoy festivals but more for a social reason than religious...

hmmmm...@To me they are all one - just many manifetsations of one ... that's is the only truth kesh! And it's a pity that people just turn a blind eye to that one thing we have in common and single out all the differences to create a world of hatred and mistrust!

**I feel the peace of the awakening day which I am so grateful to be a part of.

indeed!

**The peace of the early dawm might cause my soul to shiver when I see all the beauty of nature and life around me.

thats a very nice experience...

A very noble deed.

**There, you see children who don’t know who they are but united as one.

thats so true.

**Just sitting there and looking at those tiny tots, I feel the oneness.I feel one among them.

u have such a kind heart Jac. Wonderful!

and thats what I meant too.

**mmm well i would say the place im most at ease is my room :)(alone) thts whr most of my best conversations wth "god" happen ...

Very nice Pri, tnxx!

~~Harry

**Life is fraught with experiences;we are, each of us, held in the solitude of an autonomous body, time passes, and what has been will never be again...

whoaaa nice stuff.

**I m a surd guy...I have been to temple, mosque,Gurdwara and also to Church, but the effect is same...I find myself secluded from the rest of the world..

thats so true...so great of u to feel the 'same' in all kinds of religious places.

~~Steph

WC Steph!

**Anywhere near water does that for me. Be that ocean, river, waterfall, whatever. It calms me.

so true...Water has that soothing effect on one's soul ha.

~~Mr. Maverick

**For me, the oneness of the world is felt on soccer stadiums in London.

Thats another great place to feel the oneness...everyone sharing the same passion.

**And when they score a goal, they all go hug each other and celebrate without worrying about their race, creed, citizenship or color!! That’s what I like about English soccer!

thats a beautiful way to put it Arun....ty! I loved this one!

~~Brute

**i not a regular go temple guy...but whenever i went to the temple r church i have wat u described in this tranquil post [:)]

~~Nelly

**A simple walk at nighttime

thats nice Nelly.

**It has been both relaxing and a time when my thoughts seem to just wonder at an uncontrolable speed.

thats what I meant by thoughts just flooding in w.o. me really thinking them.

**Walking, running or biking alone at night time as given me my personal peace as of late....

thats awesome...enjoy em Nelly!

~~Sudeep

~~Jeevan

**For me the house of my tuition teacher, (in school day) is the silent place for me.

thats so sweet. wonderful memories ha Jeevan.

**another place I feel very peace and its spiritual mind make me to love that place, its Sai BABA temple, the place where beautiful flowers and garden and the sound of birds made that place very silent.

OMG I so wanna go there...we go to SB prayers here. I always wanted to visit Puttaparthy. Some day I will.

**Just thinking about the God, and beauty of that place.

so true.

**We all are one for God, god creates us to live peacefully and enjoy its creatures. The song was very soothing

ty Jeevan!

~~s0ulasylum

**Its the silence that makes it peaceful and serene..

so damn true! If a church is crowded it loses the effect.

~~desperado

~~the_new_cloud

**Ever closed your eyes and sat in a room with no one around with open arms thinking about nothing??

wow feels nice just reading this...

~~homo escapeons

**I can't stand churches. Hell for me would be an eternity sitting on a hard wooden pew listening to some weiner drone on and on and on and on about what he thinks about the price of tea in china.

lol ok...that maybe cos u go to church when it's crowded or when ur not really ready to grasp it's divinity.

**From the first second that I can remember setting foot into the place where they tell you how horrible you are and how grateful you should be for even being invited in the first place I hated it.

aww thats terrible indeed....but thats when u listen to all these lectures from priests. But have u been to a church when no one is ard?

~~Niki yokota

Niki huggggggz!

**im scared of religious places.
cant relax like u. *sob sob*
coz God might punish me for doing some bad things.

why r ya scared of God? U should never be scared of God...even if u think u have done wrong things in life, never be afraid to confess. God is ready to listen when ur ready to tell.

tc sweety!

~~Within Without

heyyy mate!

**While I no longer go to church, there is something very special about it, I admit.

Im glad u agree.

**I was brought up Roman Catholic and was an altar boy and the whole shebang. When I became an adult, it became less of a force in my life.

awww...

**Now I look at the church as a man-made institution and that as such, it contains many things I loathe: politics, a we're right you're wrong mentality, a whole bunch of other purely judgmental things.

yes...that happens within ppl's hearts...not within the church's heart.

**But that doesn't take away entirely from the feeling I had being there, while I was there.

so true.

**I just choose to have those feelings outside of that institution.

good on ya!

**Personally, I tend to have those feelings when I'm alone and outside in the trees and away from everything else and just by myself, where I can think and look around and see the beauty surrounding me.

thats nice WW...

**I hope you hold on to the ability to have the feelings you describe. When people lose that, they might as well have lost everything.

aww ty n hugggggggggz!

~~Jo

**Oh such a great song from Elton John.

It is ha.

**And about the place, I prefer a misty hillstation, or a lake shore.

Nice one Jo!

~~priya

**I like to be close to ocean and forest with natural surroundings. It brings me a gr8 relief.

me too...

**I can also relax myself in my favorite place aroung my home listening to music just being me.

music is my best friend. ty Priya!

~~The Phosgene Kid

**Great to have faith – it can get you through the tough times. I tend to believe in myself and those around me rather than some supernatural being.

ok..:)

**You have to go with whatever works best for you.

indeed...well-said Kiddo!

~~amitsinha

**Hey, I remember that I used to be a very naughty boy in my school and my teachers who were nuns took me to chappel and make me meditate.

lol really? so sweet!

**I never took that seriously, but I feel its a great place to have an introspection about urself and try to realize the sins u have made in life .

yeah...

**Somehow, my trust in Almighty has always controlled me in doing sins, though small mischieves are something I cant control. may god bless all of us.

true....but as humans we sin unintentionally...and thats ok. What matters is we realise that and not do it again n again.

~~musings (m000nie)

**hmmm...instances wld be a better term...coz these instances cld be anywhre...anytime.

thats so true...it's really not the place, it's the instances that matter.

**ummmm...do i sound i lil vague?!:)

not at all. I know exactly what u mean.

**but then again, i am very comfortable in my room...when I am ALONE!... when I can sit/lie...and just thinkk...!

yeah thats a rare for me too.

**unless i am visiting a specific place (diff city etc) and there is a famous shrine. My relationship with God is very personal and not defined by any set ritual or faith...

Good girl...the way to be.

**I enjoy festivals but more for a social reason than religious...

aha...

**that's is the only truth kesh! And it's a pity that people just turn a blind eye to that one thing we have in common and single out all the differences to create a world of hatred and mistrust!

thats so true...Ish but unfortunatley not all ppl in this world think like u and I. its so sad!

**how wz ur wkend btw?:)...hopin it wz even better than past wkends

had a blast :) will tell u all soon abt it. What abt ur's?

**back from the wkend hibernation...

yeah I missed u alot in the past week or so...glad to have u bakk Ish HUGGGGGGZ!

it is ha...ty!

~~Die Muräne

**there's only one place were one can feeel peaceful: Switzerland ;-D

whoaa indeed cos u r there! ;-)

so true mate.

**Been to church sometimes. Most times to temples including Budha, Jain etc...Any place thats holy, spiritual gives me space to be peaceful and near to god...:)

thats nice. And how r u this week? In Italy already?

Not all religious places make us peaceful. I am more peaceful inside my bedroom with classical or Jazz music playing than in most noisy religious places. Because, as we all know that there is no longer peace in religious places in the Middle East, Asia and Africa where bombs are exploding and terrorist plots are being hatched and in Nigeria, religious worshippers are competing for the "Loudest Noise Makers" Guinness World Records.

There is only peace of mind wherever you find peace and wherever peacemakers abound and not where trouble makers, criminals and terrorists are lurking in mosques, churches and other religious temples pretending to be pious devotees of God, but are actually agents of the devil in disguise.

May the grace of the Prince of Peace Jesus Christ be with you my Aussie sweetheart.
