A Chance To Live

This is a Pulitzer Prize winning photo (click to enlarge).

Describe to me in few words, what your immediate thoughts were when you looked at this pic. Mine:

His baby sandals on, he was ready to see the world...but little did he know that this world didn't care about giving him that chance. I don't understand why little Mohammed had to die this way...why all his years were brutally stolen. I have lost all faith in humanity and my heart bleeds for this innocent child. God when did you die?

my heart breaks into a million pieces whenever I see such pics. the very essence of human beings is dead now. the world needs cleansing and its not far when judgment day would come on us... and i do hope that day comes soon... its only after that many mohammed salems would be free to enjoy this world as their own!!

hmm ... I'v seen more gory bodies of little babies in rubble ... crushed, their bodies in parts and such ... wish I could have given the kid a comforting hug to ease his departure from this world in anyway I could ... really out of words :(

my only respite is in realising that other kids suffer more grotesque deaths (n I dun wanna mention em) ... some consolation for this kid huh

the first thing that came to my mind, was the boy looks so like a doll...fair white skin and clean shoes, that maroon shirt looks really good on him...and then I read that he was a killed:(

and god is not dead...he is working on far less ambitious projects...changing the depraved world is even beyond God's scope...looks like he has lost hope for any sanity on earth...

Hi Keshi. People must indeed wake up. We cannot merely say 'Oh well it happens' anymore.

The more people see it as 'normal', as 'something that happens', the more it will happen.

We are the ones making it part of everyday life by accepting it.

It is very nice to see that you look at life itself and not just what looks nice on it's surface.

May God welcome that little boy and all the others that don't make it to the papers, with warm and loving hands.

He is one of the thousand children’s killed in human war!! Sometimes it thinks that being an orphan, going along with his family is better, but losing one life is really sad! Praying that no more kid like him would lose in the bloody fight.

when i first saw the pic ...i thought its some child game...it s as if the kid wud spring up any moment from the box(somehow i cant get myself to call tht a coffin) and start giggling.....Alas!!
The world really needs to awaken....innocents always suffer at such condition but a vivid pic as this......omg!!!!its both scary n sad....

God must be weeping, he must be very lonely. Noone loved him enough. I doubt they still do. I've not lost faith / hope in god but perhaps in those I see around me. It's been a lifetime since i've seen someone genuinely happy.. breathing life.

That is so poignant and real. It is indeed sad & the perpetrators justify these calling them a historical necessity, which is even more ironic.

He hasn't even seen the real world yet.. He hasn't got the chance to know more frenz.. He hasn't got the chance to learn new things.. He hasn't got the chance to go to school...

He wasn't even given a chance to live longer...

I feel so sad for him.. :(

Like ur post title "A Chance To Live". Everybody deserves this chance to live...

But it seems likt God actually wanted him too early.. Maybe He has His reasons for bringing this little boy back to Him...

Well, it is hard to see any "purpose" in this, but still, you shouldn't lose the faith in humanity so easily.

Remember, there are many such attacks, but then we also have the other end of spectrum, like complete strangers helping each other in Mumbai floods and tsunami.


And one more thing, one of my friends replied (I know a bit late) to my query regarding Prachi. Have they checked with AIIMS in Delhi? My friend thinks this might help. Do you want me to find out more info?

He was ready to go out into the world,grow up and have a family,he has been robbed.Nobody wins in war, its the innocent citizens that die for no fault of theirs,politicians don't see this are they blind,I wonder if they would continue to fight if that child was theirs.Keshi I am as disillusioned with God like you.where is this god who is here to protect us,does he not see the senseless killing.I thought all children were to be protected from the evils in this world.when will this fighting stop?

I felt the same way when our soldiers went on a revenge killing into the home of Iraqui's killing everyone, old men, women and children.

Please don't give up keshi because there is plenty of humanity in people, it's goverments who have no humanity.

Two things stood out to me.

First, is the very simple coffin. Just very plain if you will, compared to what I am used to seeing.

Also, I was surprised that the boy is to be buried in the clothes he died in - or at least that's what it looks like to me.

Are people dying so frequently over there that they must used plywood boxes, and not take the time to properly dress the dead? The answer must be yes.

I have already seen this pic. To me it sends the message that we live in a very sick world.

Wow. I am pretty much speechless, which for someone like me with a bad case of verbal diarrhea, is rare!
Myself, I have opposed the war openly and verbally long before it even began, and I remain just as convinced - perhaps even moreso - that what is happening is wrong and completely unjust, and believe that those responsible (yes, including our president) should be tried in the world court as war criminals.
What I find even more striking than this, though, is that this photo is not being shown here in the US. I think if more people saw images like this, there would be a much greater call to arms for an immediate change.
I hope you don't mind, but I would like to post this on my blog as well. Who knows - perhaps if enough people here do see it, maybe we will begin to see a real change.

For me, faith isn't in humanity. I hope our species isn't, as they say, "too stupid to live," and survives on this planet long term. But I don't know. Global warming, for example, was first spotted by science as a potential serious threat that was better acted on sooner than later back in the early seventies!

As a species we're young, so I feel it's too early to say. But it seems that for every ray of hope there's a reality such as this photo shows. Personally, I wouldn't want to place a bet on human life either way at this point.

How Long Do You Spend Blogging?
A question to the bloggers who read my site? On average, how long do you devote to blogging each day? That includes finding/thinking of material to blog about and actually composing posts.

I spend far too much time blogging - probably around 3 hours plus a day - and it starts to become difficult when you have programming assignments to do and lectures to attend (who knows what things will be like when I start working again). I'm always looking for ways to streamline things but I guess it just takes a long time to read a load of different blogs/sites.

What's your routine? At the moment I wake up at 7 and the very first thing I do (it's sad I know) is log on and see what's new. I'll spend about an hour or more composing a few posts. Then I'll head into uni where I will occasionally blog throughout the day. When I get back from uni I will spend a good couple of hours checking out blogs and posting. Whilst it spend a few hours in the evening I won't be purely blogging, I will also be doing other things.

Maintaining this routine is really hard on occasions and you may notice that on some days I post less than usual. This is usually because I am either at the pub or just feel like a breather. Other days you'll see tons of posts. This is because I have plenty of time on my hands to blog. Anyone have any tips for more efficient blogging?

These people may not actually hate America. They may even profess to love America, but they show no understanding of what made America the precious nation it is. Here is what some of their sentiments amount to:


Contrary to the American respect for peace-loving people, they think our hurt entitles us to hurt others – even people who didn't hurt us.

Contrary to the American tradition of individual responsibility, they want to treat all Afghans as though they're bin Laden, and all Iraqis as though they're Saddam Hussein – making no distinction between the innocent and the guilty.

Contrary to the American ideal of individual liberty, they think freedom may be a nice concept but state security is more important.

Contrary to the American tradition of independent thought, they assert that questioning your government is unpatriotic, paranoid and tantamount to treason.

Contrary to the distrust of government that marked the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, they think that – despite all the mistakes our government has made – allegiance to the fatherland is your highest duty.

Contrary to the American way of good will toward all, they acknowledge that America is being transformed into an armed fortress, but say that's the price we must pay to be a superpower.
Those aren't the sentiments of people who recognize what made America the most attractive place on earth to live. But in the supreme irony, these people label those who protest against the destruction of American ideals "America-haters."

I'll comment here about both the post and some of the comments.
I find it appalling and atrocious that innocent children are dying, have died and could die due to this action of the US gov. The American public has been deceived and kept in a state of fear by the current administration. Its a known fact that when in fear, people become more compliant and willing to strike back.
That Iraq was not involved was kept from the public and quite conversely, was blamed is due to a hidden agenda by the current administration.

All that need happen is for someone to be pursued for their statements and the word terrorist be utterred and they could easily disappear with no due process. Whether george knows it or not, I could only offer conjecture on my part. Within a week or two of the administration gaining their ill gotten "right" to deny citizens of their constitutional rights, a public figure spoke out about it, and was promptly threatened with such, by saying he was a traitor.
That george is a Canadian and obviously not from American society, makes his accusation of cowardice less than credible. Yes, we have bullies here, thing is, it is the public being bullied.
