Question: Faith or Barbarism, for where is Love?

Is there a God who rewards you when you imprison another with your beliefs? Is there a God who sees differences between a Christian and a Muslim, or a Hindu and a Buddhist? Is there a God who tells you to kill His children just cos they want to live life the way they prefer? Is there a God who applauds you for taking away someone else's right to live? Is there a God who tells you that you are his great devotee if you hurt another? Is there a God who teaches you to dominate women and crush their freedom and dreams? Is there a God who worries about what you wear rather than what you do? Is there a God who blesses you when you strangle a child with your bare hands? Is there a God who doesn't recognise love? Is there a God who promotes hatred and violence? Is there a God who instructs you that killing is honorable? What's so moral about throttling another with your beliefs? What's so Honorable about Killing? To me it is the LOWEST act a human being could ever do to another! Tell me, is there such a God? Is this what your faith is? Does that God know about forgiveness, acceptance, love and humanity? Doesn't He sometimes cry, feel, want, need...love? What/who is your religion/faith/God? I follow the religion of 'Live and let live'. I pray, not through words but through my deeds...for the God I know manifests through my deeds.

First of all - disturbing but true stories.....
I am in snc with you here - what I beleive is in power of good deeds -or do what you can do best.

This might ire many people - but for me this whole concept of God is a myth - created by few powerful people to rule the masses and make them beleive that there is someone to take care of their woes.
It handicaps the mind and spirit as we get into a habit of pushing our mistakes onto that "mythical being" rather than have the courage to face it. Its a sad state of affair all over the world - ignorance and lask of basic education leads to blind faith.....

I guess all of this starts when religion ceases to be personal, an organised system which you are born into! I sometimes wonder if the preponderance of such news being associated with Islam says something about the religion itself or the state of those present day societies which practise islam...
Good post Keshi!!

Religion, whether it be for a Muslim, Catholic, Jew, Hindu, Buddhist or any other ... is about love ... where do these people receive the idea that religion is about the stupidities that killed these innocent people ... and it always seems to be women being murdered by fathers, brothers, uncles, etc. Don't any males get murdered for falling in love with the woman from another caste, village or religion or do they get a slap on the back encouraging him to sexually use or hurt her because she is not really good enough for any man of their sect or village?

Dear Keshi. Its great to see a new post.

It’s a great post. I love it.

I feel that people make up God to be what He is not at times. And I don’t think anyone has the right to take someone else’s life just because they stepped beyond the line or against the line. And I also don’t think God who is supposedly known as all powerful need his creation to take punishing others into their own hands when he could jolly well strike them with lightning in just a finger click if he wants

Its hard to say how I feel about this post Keshi. But I am so glad you posted it. Cause there was a point in my life when I was raising some question within myself about the way people do things and who God really is. And yeah, I do feel that many a times they over do things or set criterias that suffocates or place a label ‘condemned’ just cause it collides with their idea of how things should be done.

I am not saying that it means that everyone can act incorrigibly. I just feel that no one has the right to judge a person to the point of murder when I am sure their butts are still stained with their imperfections

*hugs*

hey there...

i believe in a higher power in the universe, whether it's god, allah, the stars, karma, buddha, whomever, whatever...

but at the end of the day belief is just that...a belief...it is not tangible.....

pain is tangible..you feel that..
love is tangible.. you feel that...

causing someone pain to make you feel happy and feel respected is not what religion is about...

it's not what life is about...

but this is also not about religion...it's about how men view women...and in particular in those cultures and religions...

how can you kill this "being" that has the power to bring life to this world

how can you kill this "being" that is from your own blood and only looks at you with love

how can you kill this "being" you say you respect with utmost appreciation

how can you kill this "being" that has your eyes

all for your "honor"...is that honor....

is your honor (something intangible) that much more sacred than the life (something tangible) you gave them..their life...

I was seething when I wrote about Aqsa Parvez. Basically I told her so-called father:
"I don’t give a F*CK about what your handlers or peers think about you maintaining appearances.

This is the modern world and if you cannot handle that, and refuse to allow your family members to join the 21st Century, then don’t come here.

Time and time again, the vapid, ridiculous, religio-cultural shackles of the past cling to the institutionalized psyche of many transplanted men and innocent wives and children pay the ultimate price.

Honour? You can take your f*cking honour and go live in the Dark Ages somewhere else.
Not Here."

The key to winning this 'War' is for the rest of the world to help liberate the Millions of females who are enslaved by these misogynists and their dogma.

Sweet Keshi,
Ignorance is the genesis of the violence of human crisis.

Only education can lead to the liberation of the slaves of false religion.

"Honor Killings" are satanic.

We must get rid of the devils perpetrating these evils, lest they will continue to kill more people.

There is only one God.
All the other gods and demigods are man made gods.

There are many false beliefs developed from our fears and insecurities.

We must investigate the circumstances of the religious and sectarian beliefs of our parents and ancestors and if found inhuman and evil, we should politely decline to accept them and if threatened, we should escape to wherever we can be free and in peace in other parts of the world.

The leaders of the sects perpetrating these evil and wicked "Honor Killings" must be summoned and warned to insist that their believers must stop these brutal killings.
They can do so every Jumat in their mosques and pass an edit to stop it.

God save the innocent from the wicked.

Cheers aand God bless.

"Is there a God who rewards you when you imprison another with your beliefs?"
You are rewarded in Heaven.

"Is there a God who sees differences between a Christian and a Muslim, or a Hindu and a Buddhist?"
I believe we all love the same God
and I do not have the wisdom of God to answer this.

"Is there a God who tells you to kill His children just cos they want to live life the way they prefer?"
God does not tell anyone to kill. He does not condone killing.

"Is there a God who applauds you for taking away someone else's right to live?"
There is a God who is crying over this act.

"Is there a God who tells you that you are his great devotee if you hurt another?"
No!!!

"Is there a God who teaches you to dominate women and crush their freedom and dreams?"
No!!!

"Is there a God who worries about what you wear rather than what you do?"
No!!! God loves you.

"Is there a God who blesses you when you strangle a child with your bare hands?"
No!!!

"Is there a God who doesn't recognise love?"
Emphatically no!!!!!!!!!!

"Is there a God who promotes hatred and violence?"
No!!!

"Is there a God who instructs you that killing is honorable?"
No!!!

"What's so moral about throttling another with your beliefs?"
There's nothing moral about throttling another with your beliefs!

"What's so Honorable about Killing?"
NOTHING!!!

"Tell me, is there such a God?"
There is no such God in which I believe!!!

"Is this what your faith is?"
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Does that God know about forgiveness, acceptance, love and humanity?"
God created forgiveness, acceptance, love and humanity!!

"Doesn't He sometimes cry, feel, want, need...love?"
MORE THAN WE CAN POSSIBLY KNOW!!!

"What/who is your religion/faith/God?"
I am Catholic and the God in which I believe is LOVE!!

"I follow the religion of 'Live and let live'."
I feel my religion believes in live and let live. But when others are living by killing, lying, raping, molesting, abusing, etc I can not simply say agree with that statement.

"I pray, not through words but through my deeds...for the God I know manifests through my deeds."
I pray through my words, my thoughts, and my deeds and when I do what is right, in that He leeds me, he guides me, then I know God is manifested through out me in everything I do.

"I pray, not through words but through my deeds..." Sounds right to me. I'm 100% convinced that the "God of wrath" in whose name people on the far right of western religions practice hatred and revenge doesn't exist and is a sad commentary on how much the human spirit can shrink and the psyche distort.

The Bible and the Koran can only be read with our own hearts and minds. It seems to me that oftentimes those who do the most scripture quoting prefer the parts of scripture that strike me as least inspired. Maybe people who turn to scripture to support their every utterance should consider the possibility that scripture is God's own Rorschach test; maybe we're judged by what verses we choose to select and emphasize. Here are a few I like that you'd probably like too, but that you don't hear quoted nearly often enough, imo:

“My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and do it.” Luke 8:21

“If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.” Luke 9:23

”You will know them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thorns, or figs from thistles? In the same way, every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. Mat 7:16-17

“We must work the works of him who sent us while it is day; night is coming when no one can work.” John 9:4-5

“From everyone to whom much has been given, much will be required; and from one to whom much has been entrusted, even more will be demanded.” Luke 12:48

“Show me your faith without works, and I by my works will show you my faith.” James 2:18

No it is not God, but it is people! When people don't really see the meaning of religion thats when such brutalities happen.
Reliegion is all about showing you the way to liv life with love and hope and sinceriety. People nowadays use religion as a mask for shielding their horrendous crimes.

I don't believe it is just in Islam, but i think almost every religion has people who do such brutalities in the name of religion!

That girl is freer now than she was at any time in her life. At least she had the courage to try and cast off the chains of Islam. I for one will not forget her anytime soon. Absolute cowards, muslim men are afraid of, and are threatened by the girls. I have nothing but pure contempt for them all.

Christians and Muslims have been at each others throats from the word 'Go', Although the increasing momentum towards faith oriented cruelty through sheer ignorance is perpetuated by the fat priests of the Muslim faith, who appear to be still within the medieval era.
Most Christian communities have left these cruel leanings two centuries ago.
Methods of cruelty and sheer horror can be attributed to the Chinese (in the past).
Visit 'HAW PAR VILLA'? in Singapore or Hong Kong for displays of ritual killing, these displays are blood curdling.

Is there a god that makes men subservient to women?

How one religion mutated into a seriously misunderstood teaching is baffling. Even when every other religion draw a line when it comes to someone who do not wish to practice, this one religion never lets go.

How we can achieve peace and infinite patience through Buddhism, the love of culture and art and the cosmos through Hinduism and the revelation of a peaceful and loving God through Christianity failed to mirror similar human and humanity sentiments in this 'one' religion is unanswerable. Probably you can see how all religions are connected because we humans are one, only our make-up differs...

And the first thing to teach a child is that God is compassionate, loving and divine. The last thing even it it is the last thing, NOT to teach someone is of God's wrath. there is no such thing, and it influences half baked maniacs in violent ways.

I believe in God Keshi and believe very strongly in it ... and I believe in religion as well ... and there is nothing in this world that can change that belief ...

Is my belief blind ... might be for everyone else but not for me .. He is there and I accept Him from all my heart ....

But my belief is mine (it is personal) and I dont impose it on others ...

I think that answers why I abhor the kind of incidents you narrated ... becoz belief in God is personal ... it has got nothing to do with what others believe ... God and religion in its entirety is beyond the so called insult that people throw at them ... if one person could influence religion it wld never have been evolved and wld have never been able sustained itself over the centuries ... if people realised and accepted this simple fact all kind of so called fundamentalism would stop ....

And as to the fact that whether our deeds is everything that matters, well God and deeds are two separate things for me ... We as human beings are superior to others becoz of our brain ... one of the key aspect is conscience ... how I use my conscience is my problem and my deeds are thus result of my thinking and God has got nothing to do with it ... lets not blame Him for our sub(un)conscious state ...

See u make me think so much :)

Hi,Keshi-yes,even I read most of these stories, and was wondering whether God really meant for humans to interpret His teachings in this way, whichever religion you belong to?

In fact, I came across this one last week:
"An appeal court in Saudi Arabia has doubled the number of lashes and added a jail sentence as punishment for a woman who was gang-raped.

The victim was initially punished for violating laws on segregation of the sexes - she was in an unrelated man's car at the time of the attack."

On one side,I do agree that people should respect a country and a person's religious sentiments. On the other, are such acts justified in this day and age,I wonder?

Terrible examples all are and an excellent post.I always have lived by that adage "Live and let live" and it is very shocking to see how so many just wreck others' lives and end up in self-destruction of their soul as well.

Let's join hands in unison and do the right thing in our way.Hugsss

Thank you for blogging about this subject.

Removing the "honor" killings issue from the religious sphere, doesn't it really just come down to having some respect for basic human rights?

Hi Keshi

In most of these events, the accused are extremists.

In the case of the teacher, she was ignorant of the consequences.

The newspaper editor was not stating, he was asking if it was right or wrong to use religious names.

In the Mississauga case, it was a clash of cultures and more so lifestyles. Wearing the hijab is rooted in religion, but it's also a part of the lifestyle. This is all I'm going to say about this case because there's a lot more to this story than the public knows.
Peel Regional Police are still investigating the case. The Father is accused. (but)

In the case of the Asian woman it was a cultural and lifestyle clash, much like the Mississauga case.

The London case was not religious nor cultural, it was murder. The issues surrounding this case are numerous.

If you believe in God, God is a god of love. The Devil is the god of hate. Just exactly who are these people worshipping?

Keshi, that one about faith and works really impacted me too - when I first read it, it was just... Wow - ! A jaw-dropper.

I'd be interested in your response to what I just posted - on a similar wavelength.

Things like that can make one loose any faith in a higher power they might still have.

I thought I had commented here last night. I guess not.

What really scares me most about these stories is it always results in people condemning certain religions while ignoring the problems or the same type of crap going on in their own religion.

Hi Keshi

If you remember the post where I including a small portion of the draft of a story we're working on, I want to add a small update I heard about. It appears as though a child (10years-old?) may have committed sucide because of the same reasons as the one mentioned in the story. The problem is no one knows if a child did commit suicide. No one is talking. There's no funeral nor death notice.
Our source is very reliable. The whole story is strange.

BTW, I'm back!!

These incidents are to reprehensible if not they will continue with the unreasoned belief. I want to tell it’s a stupid thing some people took against the British school teacher, and what happen to that Mississauga girl by her own father is very sin. Look at her she has a beautiful face; it makes sad seeing something like that messed in belief.

I have a belief that is to me and I can’t force it into any other people. This is happening when some want there belief to be hope by others too, if not the violent head lifts.

Some ppl need to be hanged! Seriously! Im not a death penalty supporter but in scenarios like this I get VERY ANGRY.

Hi Keshi

In North America, circa 1920-30's, religions formed as a result of ones breaking away from other faiths. It's the same as the religion you're talking about. The name of the religion is used to cover all the factions of this religion. It's the factions that cause most of the problems encountered in the world.

The events you mentioned are isolated, in the fact that the crimes were committed one or two people.

Saw a nice lady from the Persian Gulf blog awhile back and she asked the question of where did the teaching of kindness and mercy go she got in mosque as a kid. heyyyyyy NUTTY :). Tooooooooooooo many poshts to read, so I'll keep tab from this. *Gosh* you should rename you blog as 'Keshi Daily' :D.

Quite honestly I don't believe in god as an entity but only as a concept. Guess you know that. Godliness is there in us :) and yet we search for god outside.

Religion the way I see has become a way to make people live the way someone in power / in want for power wants to. Rather than it being just 'a way of life'. History says that too. Of course I have made a generalization here and there are exceptions.

Unfortunately thats how it works in this world :(. It faaaar from being atlantis ;).
