On Your Mark, Get Set, Go?

WARNING: Some images in this post may cause distress to some viewers!

Following is a list of things that make me very sad, especially when the people involved are educated, able and supposedly-sensible people.

**When people give high importance to just one language

Ashu's recent post about 'respecting Hindi' in comparison to other regional languages in India (cos Hindi is the National language of India), really raised some interesting thoughts in my mind. What is Language? To me, it's a means of Communicating, nothing more nothing less. You may speak Hindi, English, Tamil, French, Sinhalese, Spanish, Urdu etc etc but no one should be asked to respect/learn/speak/understand one particualr language over others, just cos it's the national language of your country? I say that's bullshit arrogance, false pride and selfishness. Why should one language be given more importance than the other? Let people learn, speak, write whatever they were born into, whatever they want to...not what some strong nationalists want them to. Besides, what about the deaf and mute people? What language do you think they should 'folllow' and 'respect'? And what about the older folks who cannot easily learn a new language? I find it mind-numbingly shocking when people make such ruthless statements. Even Sign language is beautiful...so is Hindi...and so is English etc etc. Let us not make Language a reason to kill each other now (as if we don't have enough shit to deal with in this world). Please guys, get over your national pride, get over your obsession with your mothertongue...love it but don't look down upon other languages. All languages should be equally admired and respected.

Language is used to communicate, not to feel superior.

**When people look down upon other skin colors

Why do some people think that their skin color is the 'highest' of all shades? Humans migrated from many parts of the world to many other places, and respective climates changed our appearances, such as skin color, hair color etc. So what makes you think that the color of your skin is a God-given sign of Superiority? If that's the case then, different skin-colored people should have different skills. What say? Sadly for you, we are all ONE no matter what. We all have a pair of eyes, ears, a head, a pair of hands and legs etc and we all feel the same emotions...and we all have the SAME capacity to reach the highest of human abilities! No skin color has been given special mental/physical privileges. So get out of your rainbow dream and come down to Earth please! Cos in the end, this is what happens to all of us and we all look like this inside too (see pic).

Black or White, we all shit from the same end!

**When people 'protect' their Religion with guns

What is Religion? To me it's a set of beliefs based on your own upbringing, culture, personality etc. I don't have one particular religion, I respect all faiths and I pick the best teachings of all of them. I only have a way of life that I follow. I come from a Hindu and a Buddhist background, I went to a Methodist school, my best friend is a Muslim girl and I hang out with many people from many different backgrounds. If you're so desperate to guard your Religion with weapons and blast anybody who questions your religion, what's the use of your Religion mate? What good has it really taught you? Does your Religion teach you to blow up people? Wow, what a super nice Religion then! *rolling eyes*

If your religion is so great, nothing/nobody should affect you.

**When people draw mental borders in the name of patriotism

What is so great about countries? That they are all different, yes. But what's so great about hard-core Patriotism? Nothing. You may fight for your land, scream and cry, die for it even, kill others for it, but in the end your country isn't gonna die for you. It just sits in it's place on this Globe, it doesn't move an inch even. It just does it's job by being there on the map and enjoying it's own existence. You become the fool. If you really love your country, do something good for it..something productive...not something violent and certainly not something that embarasses your own land. Don't be blinded by patriotism that you forget humanity. Look at this pic of an American soldier in Iraq, carrying the dead body of an Iraqi baby boy...this soldier is showing true humanity here, not patriotism. Cos no matter what you try to do, humanity creeps in...especially if you have a heart.

True patriotism should break mental walls and erase all emotional borders.

**When a whole country is being labeled as 'racist'

I have seen so many people, even in Blogville, branding an entire country as 'racist'. During Aussie/India Cricket series, all Aussies were termed racists, sadly. Some called all Aussies idiots. And I have often seen all Sri Lankans being labeled as racists cos of the on-going Sinhalese and Tamil war in Sri Lanka. It's very wrong to generalise an entire nation as racists based on few people's callous and stupid acts. I say people who brand an entire nation as racist are the real racists. We have to try and understand each person from what he/she has to say..not from what someone else has to say. Look at this pic...it's a pic of 2 Bondi Beach life-savers in Aus...an Aussie chick and an Aussie Lebanese chick. How beautiful and loving some individuals can be towards each other!

Communities/lands aren't racist, individuals are.

**When anything Western is seen as Vulgar

Recently few favorite blogs of mine had some great posts about Cheerleaders in Cricket matches held in India, and the angry reaction from some Indians calling it 'vulgar' and culturally 'inappropriate'. Now I can understand why some Indians would react that way, cos Cheerleading is new to most of them. But what baffles me is this. Doesn't Bollywood dancing with gyrating, highly sexual body movements come from India? Didn't Kama Sutra come from India? I'm sure many Indians love Bollywood movies and enjoy them too. Nothing wrong with that and I like them too. But the moment something Western is introduced, everyone screams 'vulgar'! How strange. To me it's total ignorance and false pride. That's all. People need to get over their fake beliefs and realise that this is life...men, women, love, lust, sex etc etc. It's all a part of life. It's how you can handle it that really matters.

Don't try to deny the real things in life.

**When people never give up on hatred

There's an on-going War (for the last 25yrs) in Sri Lanka...my motherland. The Sinhalese and the Tamils are killing each other over a piece of land in that bloody tiny country. In Sri Lanka, linguistic rights of Tamils have been a key source of conflict, which has paved the way for the civil war and Tamil insurgency. Sadly, this war never seem to end...it has now reached to a level where the LTTE (Tamil Separatists) aren't asking for any linguistic rights anymore, they are now asking to divide the nation and run separate governmets. Neither of them want to give into each other, so there's a raging battle between the SL Army and the terrorists, killing many people every single day. The root of all this is hatred and sense of superiority. Why can't people just stop and see what can be done to help each other than go on a killing-spree for 25yrs? I find it very difficult to understand how a war can go on for that long without a single sign of peace. I lost 2 of my dear uncles (both senior Police officers) to this war as well. This is a pic of a weeping father holding his innocent baby boy's body (killed by a landmind), all cos of a stupid war!

Sometimes you've just got to stop on your tracks and let the other person win.

When I see such people and hear their words, witness their behavior and the results of their heartless acts, all I see is a Power Struggle... a blood-spilling race to be the First! All of us want to be right, want to be supreme, the best, the most admired, the most powerful etc etc...and that's the root of all problems in this world, and many innocents have to pay the heaviest price cos of few arrogant people. If no one else is asking you to live your life their way, then why don't you stop asking them to live their life your way? Grow up people, live and let live! You're not gonna take your language, country, skin color, race etc etc with you when you die. You just die.

hm, i think english should be given some degree of importance, seeing as how we've got to communicate with the rest of the world. cliched argument, i know, but still...

and skin colour, well, it totally shouldn't matter what a person looks like, and not many people take the time to figure out what someone is all about.

i'm an atheist, and i've met a whole lot of people who've yelled and screamed bloody murder at me when they've found out. everyone bloody wants to argue that their point is the biggest one, and frankly, that sucks! sadly, this sorta thing comes up in the case of patriotism and racism as well. if people could just learn to respect others' points of view in general, this would be such a better place to be in.

n about that last part...we had gd classes concerning this topic. the argument i liked most was the one about our temples having effigies of apsaras baring it all. everyone was arguing against the mob's view. funny thing is, nobody makes a commotion about male actors/models/whoever in ads n stuff...

You sid it right about languages.....there should be respect for all kinds of communication. Why single one out?

We just need to get more accepting and tolerant. Somehow I feel, thats missing in the present day.

Such a thought provoking post keshi!!i dunno hw do u come up wth such beautiful posts. My heart aches when i think of all those ppl who get killed coz of some fanatics who say tht they r doin it in the name of jihad. But yes its wrong to hate a religion jus bcoz there r a section of ppl in there who like to create chaos and havoc. I mean wht will China get by owning Tibet!?its a small peaceful country....I fail to understand the reason behind y ppl fight over a piece of land, over religion, over money.....etc etc after all v r all gonna die someday and v cant take any of it wth us!! If someone had to ask me the worst invention so far, it wud hav to b nuclear weapons! Its strange tht man created such a thing which wud in turn destroy the whole civilization. Wonder who wud want to live in a world wthout human beings!

of language, let them have all the Hindi they want, I am a linguist and I know which language is important and its not the national language, anywhere and in any country. :)

Hi Keshi,
I have been reading all your posts but commenting now on this one.
I agree & appreciate your thoughts written here but I think you got it wrong what Ashu was trying to say.

I have also read Ashu's post. I think what she meant was national language should be above than any regional language/mother tongue, be it hers, yours or any other's.

It wasn't disrespect for other languages but respect for national language. It is another thing that national language happens to be mother tongue to some people.

**It wasn't disrespect for other languages but respect for national language

So what exactly d u mean by ABOVE THAN then?

Hi,Keshi...a very valid list of questions...albeit,no concrete answers,I'd say, since many of these fights and riots boil down to politics and politicians who want to keep issues like language, skin colour, killings alive and kicking, since it adds to their vote banks to have a 'mudda'(A topic to scream about).

Similarly, take the IPL cheerleader outcry-makes no sense having such double standards, honestly. At least the cheerleaders add a bit of zing to the game, which is what they are there for. If people's eyeballs pop out of their sockets, seeing them, fine!Let them look elsewhere-there's plenty of space on the grounds, definitely, where they can turn their lascivous gaze to!!hehe.
-----
Re. skin colour-I see it only too often out here.Mainly, the white-skinned acting superior to us-initially.:)Once they realize our capabilities, the attitude changes. Here also, the spoilers are people who still believe these whites to be 'Babus',and, bow to lick their shoes whenever they're around, figuratively speaking.Perhaps that's the rot that needs to be stemmed.

I do pray,of course, that someday all your wishes come true-the world'd be a better place to live in.

cuckoo, thanks for the comment. Keshi, i think cuckoo makes it clear what i failed to convince u to.

may be u have to understand that India is a country of many many races and many many languages. there is no official count of languages being spoken in india.

take a case of say America, most of the people speak English though few Latin American immigrants do speak Spanish, Portuguese and french. English being predominant in US, Spanish is 2nd official language in many states. NY/NJ has many mexicans and Argentine locations and u wud find signboards in English (national language) and Spanish (local language, which locals understand)...

i dont know whats in this to blow it to a major misunderstanding. In India we have so many castes and so many languages. Officially there has to be one language used across and thats Hindi.

And yes if you leave few fanatics beside (though u d count me in it too :)))), every one speaks in language of his or her own choice. and there is a peaceful co-existence.

About entire country being labelled as racist -- i think again few people did it esp media in India which is total shit and crap. People who understand game wont term entire country as racist. again that was a misinterpretation of what Harbhajan told to Symmo (an abuse related to mother), and it boiled to such an ugly row....

About SL, well i dont know much so wont comment. And can u believe Chuck is playing along side Haydo and Hussey in Chennai Super Kings in IPL (Cricket league). ISnt that a big thing. He who had pledged never to tour Australia again for chucking calls not only toured Australia late last year but is also sharing the same dressing room with Hayden and Hussey.

Thats what cricket does. Brings down the boundaries and makes entire world (cricketing) go together.

and if u r not convinced at the Hindi thingy, then let it remain as it is.

Language is to just to communicate where we learn, but by birth we all have some common languages like smiling, crying, loving...

"in the name of patriotism" I would like to tell, just being an patriotic that’s not we have to lose humanity. Only good thing is people couldn’t divide the air which they can’t see, nor we would be died enough already.

"never give up on hatred" In a narrow way only one vehicle can travel, if another side too has a vehicle to pass no one can reach.

What we bring to carry away with us...

Keshi- thats a beautiful post!!!
Language is all pervasive and yet we need to respect all languages. But I guess it doesnt work this way- people in some countries(like the one I am in presently-*without taking names*)dont really care a damn about English, hindi or for that matter any other language & neither do they care about you if you cant speak "their" language. In that regard, perhaps,a little more nationalism in us for "Hindi" wont hurt us--so that we can give it back to them when they are in our land(rather than welcoming them in english/their language):-). Keshi, I hope everyone thought like you but unless that happens "language-pride" to the extent of it acting as a "barrier-to-communication" is going to exist!

I've had this discussion with a bunch of people before. It was about regionalism in India - Tamils refusing to speak Hindi and such. After a long and fruitful argument, we reached an agreement that learning any language that facilitates working , living and understanding your fellow man is a GOOD thing to do.

Since Hindi "IS" the national language, whether you or I like it or not, it makes sense to learn Hindi merely so you can communicate with Indians from other parts of India.

In a multilingual country like India, if every state refuses to recognise Hindi and speak only the language of their state, India would go to the dumps. We have enough people killing each other on trivial issues like statues of dead politicians being desecrated etc. We don't need any more non-sense like that. If you want to integrate as a country you need to have SOME things in common, one of which is language. If Tamil was the national language spoken by the majority, I would learn Tamil. If it was Marathi, I'd learn Marathi. Since it is Hindi, I've learnt Hindi.

My father was raised just off a major suburban road and would go to church every Sunday---a different one every Sunday and thats how I was raised---none of them are right and none of them are wrong---they should all give comfort to the people who believe in their teachings----and I havent found one yet that teaches war or killing or hate.
What is colour---all of us pale white folks keep wanting to get some sun on our bodies to change our colour. Our colour doesnt make us beautiful or superior.
Language---I will find a way to communicate no matter what language you speak or if you are deaf or mute.
Boundaries are only there for Goverments, not for us---we are all people and no one is a superior being---oh,except you

hard core patriotism is basically nationalism. it worked in the early 20th century. but it cant work today when evrything is available on the net as freeware :)

Now most of the people talk based on their LATEST experience...as well as sumthing that they have seen happen over n over agn. Most of us tend to get carried away wit out thots while writing and Not every1 has that command over the language..to be able to convert to words their exact thoughts. So it ends up sounding exagerated. Most people try to share their experiences and might seem like generalizing...but not all of 'em are essentially doing that (intentionally).
Do u get wat im saying?See im struggling to find the rite words here...

And to those ppl who genuinely blv in the differences between language, religion color etc...Wat can i say but wish they grew up.. FASSSSST! Like u said..Therez already enough shit to deal with in this Universe!

Hi keshi

I know exactly what you are saying about languages. Here in Canada we have two official languages. That is everywhere but the province de Québec where you could get shot for speaking English. For the most part, the province does not allow any English signage while many of the other provinces must have both languages on their highway signs.

The war between English Canada and French Canada dates back to the early settlers. The province de Québec has nearly separated from Canada on a number of occasions.

Being the sadistic creature that I am, I love going to Québec in a car with Ontario plates. On almost every trip, someone will either curse us or make fun of us in French. Then we start speaking French just to watch the expressions on their faces.

Once, I was in Québec with a guy who spoke Spanish. He taught me a few Spanish words. When we heard someone cursing us, we started to speak Spanish. We beat them at their own game. It was hilarious.

LOL

Have a nice weekend!

I'll be away for a few days--not sure how long.

I think it's important for languages to be preserved. They're part of the heritage, culture and history of people and places. Not that any one language is superior, but there a lot of languages that get pushed out. That's kinda sad.

I am not sure if thats gonna get into the heads of those people. Coz only thing they are gonna do is counter argue this.

When people have no other means to feel better / important they go over such trivial things. Sadly much of the indian government runs that way. Like the supreme court of india once pointed out, the parliament spends more time in bickering b/w the leaders and non-issues which the politicians highlight to get noticed than resolving issue plaguing the people. Its the easy way to grab attention you know. The best treatment for such people is to ignore em. To let em live in their own world ;).

Point of view keshi. Everyone wants to preserve the way of life. Religion is a way of life write by people of knowledge if the part. Unfortunately our people misinterpret for their own benefits. These people play with the weak minded getting them into believing into something else.

unfortunately the human mind is just too complex. once some ideas are seared, esp. when not to let it get erased there ain't much that can be done. Coz those minds have decided to resist change.

But one thing keshi. I don't think we should make such statements as what good is ur religion. I feel these are the statements that really infuriate people.

** To me it's total ignorance and false pride.

NO! Those people saying it are brilliant. Moral policing :D. They need to be important and to hold power.

I wonder if you've read atlas shrugged. In one place they explain how the government imposes impractical laws so that it will have out-laws so that it can have the power :D. Much of todays world works that way. The law needs the unlawful for them to stay in power ;).

Vulgar is their reason / excuse or weapon, whatever u wanna call it

** I say people who brand an entire nation as racist are the real racists.

Ahmm ahmm. Aren't you saying something about urself! LOL. Just kidding :D

People need identity.

Know what? Did you notice that nature works the same way. Survival of the fittest. I feel much of what happens is just in alignment with nature. Every species wants to survive, sometimes at the cost of anothers. Every creature feels its on top of its own pyramid. I think its survival instinct.

Yes, we'd say we have intellect and we can think about what we so. But in the end its about survival and ensuring ur offsprings flourish. Its unfair, but ain't that how nature works.

And much like in nature we form groups to ensure that our values are kept and we account for all those within out circle.

If it were possible to give a comfortable living to ALL humans on earth then mebbe we wouldn't have this many problem. But life always wants more than what it has :). Unfortunately in a world where resources are scarce it ends up being a dog-eat-dog world.

Like smith says in The Matrix. Humans being are a virus plaguing the planet. Living on the host until the host exists.

Life is so convoluted :D. So we end up living life for our satiety. What people get a satiety out of depends on various factors. Now am again getting back to square one *grrr*

I thought a LOT about this post of yours. Its very sad, and all of these issues are something we are ALL aware of, we ALL hate, but somehow, its only getting worse with each passing day :(
I think we can summarize the root of all these issues to EGO.
MY language is better
MY religion is better
MY race is better
MY country is better
MY culture is better
I am the best, and you are a piece of shit. When you say that to someone, they retaliate back with the same set of responses. Ufffff!!! Will we ever learn to accept and respect and love the diversity we have in our world?

Why is it that with such a vast majority of the population of the world wanting peace, a handful of maniacs control what really happens? Why are we not able to overcome this beast? The fanatics are not afraid to voice their opinions, not afraid to "take action" for what they want, then why are we peace-loving people afraid, why don't we do something to stop them? Why are they more powerful, is their belief stronger than ours? Are they more passionate than us? I know I am a coward, the max I can do is "I agree, this is wrong", or write about it, but nothing to stop it :(
I have joined the "Save Darfur Coalition". But when they asked me to disclose my name and address, I thought about it for a bit...will this somehow create problems with my immigration case, will i be blacklisted, ridiculous things like that. I did sign up and disclosed my identity, but am ashamed to say I did a retake before I signed up. Coward!

Langugage is just a means of communication, and knows no barriers. So not language is small or big. But it saddens me when people dont acknowledge their mother tongue, just for the sake of stupid snobbery. I guess i have told you this before.

I ditto each and every word Gp said here about racism. I dunno when are we gonna mend our ways, and grow out of our suinted vision. Its not the colour its the life. We're all humans at the end of the day.

Religion is nothing but a creed. A faith. A stick tp lean on when nothing else can show you the way. i aint a religios soul at all, nwither do I much believe in the concept of God. But this much I believe, that our religion gives us a certain kind of identity, gives us the rituals we follow, that make our lives eventful colourful. Thats all.

hey Guns tnxx!

**Tamils refusing to speak Hindi and such.

nah Guns it isnt only abt Tamils not wanting to speak Hindi, it should also be abt others not wanting to speak Tamil..dun u think so? My point is why should Tamils speak Hindi? Just cos it's ur National language? Thats a very unfair call! Language is not something u can force upon an individual..it's a Birth Right!

**Since Hindi "IS" the national language, whether you or I like it or not, it makes sense to learn Hindi merely so you can communicate with Indians from other parts of India.

ah ah, whether we like it or not? Thats a ruthless way of putting it Guns! Wut abt the old generation? D u think it's easier for em to learn it? Also, how many Indians deal with Indians from other parts of India on a dailybasis to a degree that Hindi becomes sooooo mandatory?

It really depends on the individual Indian's needs and lifestyle. If u need Hindi to survive, to do ur job or u want to learn it etc, then yes u should learn it. If not, just let ppl be who they r.

**In a multilingual country like India, if every state refuses to recognise Hindi and speak only the language of their state, India would go to the dumps

why wud it go to dumps? d u know that Sri Lanka is in the dumps cos of this same issue? cos Sinhalese was made the National language and that was the first step that hurt the Tamils...and the bloody war now is 25yrs old with 1000s of ppl dead and gone, all cos of Language pride!

I dun want the same thing to happen to India.

**We don't need any more non-sense like that. If you want to integrate as a country you need to have SOME things in common, one of which is language

nah it'll only DIVIDE all of u more n more. Wait n watch.

**When people have no other means to feel better / important they go over such trivial things.

Yes I agree. An over-the-top National pride is for loners. Cos they hvnt got anything else to appreciate abt themselves.

**Sadly much of the indian government runs that way.

Its the same way the Sri Lankan govt operates. No wonder the Economy is shit and the war is going on for so long!

**Everyone wants to preserve the way of life. Religion is a way of life write by people of knowledge if the part.

Nope Religion isnt a way of life. Its a belief system that may be totally lies. A way of life is a philosophy which is cud be the closest truth abt life...nature for instance.

**Unfortunately our people misinterpret for their own benefits. These people play with the weak minded getting them into believing into something else.

I agree.

**Coz those minds have decided to resist change.

cud it be cos they r so unhappy with themselves?

**But one thing keshi. I don't think we should make such statements as what good is ur religion. I feel these are the statements that really infuriate people.

haha u got me wrong? I didnt question a specific Religion from that statement! I was asking what good is the RELIGION that he/she is demonstrating from their own acts. Im not attacking the entire Relgion, Im attacking the doer of the bloody acts. d u get it now Samy?

**NO! Those people saying it are brilliant. Moral policing :D. They need to be important and to hold power.

haha moral policing? Then they should ban Bollywood movies to begin with!

**Much of todays world works that way. The law needs the unlawful for them to stay in power ;).

o I see. :):)

**Vulgar is their reason / excuse or weapon, whatever u wanna call it

aha..

** I say people who brand an entire nation as racist are the real racists.
Ahmm ahmm. Aren't you saying something about urself! LOL. Just kidding :D

how d u mean? I didnt get that Samy hehe.

**Every species wants to survive, sometimes at the cost of anothers. Every creature feels its on top of its own pyramid. I think its survival instinct.

yes but Im not like that..does this mean Im not part of nature? LOL!

** But in the end its about survival and ensuring ur offsprings flourish. Its unfair, but ain't that how nature works.

but alot of us don't kill others to survive.

**And much like in nature we form groups to ensure that our values are kept and we account for all those within out circle.

I agree. But that doesnt have to spark wars.

**But life always wants more than what it has :). Unfortunately in a world where resources are scarce it ends up being a dog-eat-dog world.

true..

**Like smith says in The Matrix. Humans being are a virus plaguing the planet. Living on the host until the host exists.

so true! thats why Im sick of it already hehe.

**Life is so convoluted :D. So we end up living life for our satiety.

We all do that, unfortunately. Its a hunger that never gets fulfilled.

**What people get a satiety out of depends on various factors. Now am again getting back to square one *grrr*

I agree.

**Why is it that with such a vast majority of the population of the world wanting peace, a handful of maniacs control what really happens?

OMG this is exactly wut I ask all the time! So many ppl want Peace and only a few r idiots, so why cant we overcome this?

**Why are they more powerful, is their belief stronger than ours?

I was wondering abt that too. U raise some very interesting points Aneri.

I guess its also cos tho more ppl want Peace, no one really does anything abt it. Everyone just keeps to themselves, cos of the FEAR of being identified as a Peace lover..and thats really a shame! Everyone is trying to save their ass Aneri.

3. yeah, exactly.. fighting cause of religion. sheesh, sick. okay, if some beliefs clash, just accept the difference. period!
And the rest of the points, I TOTALLY agree with you!

Wonderful post.. all the points I believe in.

Racism is something I just cannot understand. Some are fair, some are dark, and it not because one is superior and the other is not. Fair ppl think they are superior, but anyone who studies genetics will tell us that dark skin colour is a dominant charecter and fair is recessive. And also, that darker u are, u are better protected from the sun's UV rays.

And does calling someone a monkey amounts to racism? Are'nt everyone of us descendents of the monkey?

Also, regarding the fight for religion.. why cannot everyone live peacefully? Why keep bickering about whose religion is superior or not? Are muslims or hindus or christians not suffering all over the world? Does any religion offer sugar coated benefits like free power and color TVs? Does Christianity pay the water bill or Islam cover one's expenses for dal and rice? Its such a sad world out here.. :(

I firmly believe colour of a persons skin white or other shades has little importance nowadays, it has never ever bothered me, however, watching my fav soccer team Portsmoth get beaten one nil by Blackburn United last week in England, the only white face in the Portsmouth team belonged to the goalkeeper. BLACKburn united only had six non white faces.
Multiculturism gone mad you might think, not so, as I believe dem white guys are not so skilful as most of the imported and local gents who are not white, and the big money men are obviously aware of it.
Fortunately I don't have any qualms about my racial status; originally, fair haired white anglo saxon , born London England, Language English.
Living in Australia where we have a mixed bag; even I have been on the end of the "Pommie Bastard" cliche, I sometimes retalliate by replying that they are jealous of my superiority.

Remember this. "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent".
Everyone. Have a beautifully colourful weekend.

Even the wars for materialism is based on racism, patriotism or religion. Unless, it is sentimetal people won't mobilise for a war.

I respect and your thoughts and it seems logical as well.

btw, did I say that I am extremely happy to read a fantastic blog of a fellow countryman (or rather, country woman) of mine.

keshi, can I request you to do something? can you go to this website every once in a while and just "click" on all those buttons? It might help someone! There are a lot of causes they support, check out all the tabs.

http://www.thehungersite.com

I had sent it to a few friends before, most did not reply, one did, saying he will definitely visit as often as he can, and one disgustingly tried to justify why he will not do it. In spite of it being free to him, and taking up not more than 1 minute a day :(

yep Finally I get time to share my views and thereby learn and correct myself.
I give special importance to my mother tongue. I have no liking nor interest in propogating any other language but i appreciate all language as each have their own flavor.
people always give more preference to English in todays world just because it is the most widely spoken language in the world. It is the business language and to get your point across to a wider range of people U have to adopt it.Now coming to Hindi As we all know India being a place with many languages and different religion There are hardly any common points amongst the people in different parts especially in south and North.I am not being a regionalists oe something but this is a fact. When a national or common langauge was picked up there were many nominees as there are some intresting and amazing langauges but Hindi was picked mainly becuase it was widely accepted. Now You might like Hindi or not but You need to respect it as a national language and what pisses me off is people neglecting it, not even neglecting but even hating it. They still don't accept this because they feel it as a insult to their regional language. When you have all over India, English as primary language, hindi as the secondary and the regional as the third. Things are different In the South and especially TamilNadu. I just say so boldy because its my state.Again this doesnt mean ALL but a high proportion. Its like my hands one day start saying that its more important than my entire body and start agitating. seeing this tomorrow my eyes will say that those are the most important part and not co-operate. At the end of the day a man who could have been so productive turns out to be utter nonsense. And seeing this now we have many states where the language system i said is not followed. I mean if English is used through out the world doesn't mean that it is the best langauge around. so my point is if I have willfully accepted my self as a tenant in an society I have to follow the rules of the society unless the rules are really stupid and if they are I need to make them realise and justify why they are stupid and try to get the right rules in place. Its like my captain may not be the best player in the Team but he deserves some special place in the Team.

Again this thing(skin color) I feel is something ridiculous. I almost agree with wotever you say. Again i might like a particular color that doesnt make that color superior. Or just becuase more people like it it doesnt become superior.

religion i guess is the Thing a that drives nations crazy.I always feel the people who created religions did so to make Life better during their point of time. Eventually with time their always was some kind of modification needed which wasnt properly done. And all these great people who created this religion never took into consideration that there could be some other better way or alternate way and even if they thought they never mentioned it just because.
I always feel everyone knows everything its just few people really think about all the outcomes before they do and actually dont do and few people make the wrong choice and do. DO here refers to being racist or labelling racist, draw borders and never give up on hatred. No body likes pain but instead of adjusting and coming in par with everyone Few people comfort themselves or their kind by hurting others.

I guess just a rush of emtions. tommorow is gonna be the same old day.same bickering same brawling same fight and same cry.becuase no insane person is gonna read this and the one who is gonna read is already sane.

U got some heart-wrenching pictures there keshi. And this post is relevant to all the serious issues that plague our world today. I agree wit most things tat u said here. Most thigns n not all coz somewhere I believe language is a way of communication true, but it;s also something that brings people together. English is given much deserved importance - why? Coz today it's a global language that gets people all over the world together. Similarly if two illiterates here in india need to communicate it's always easier to do so in hindi. It's got nothing to do with pride it's a matter of convenience. Also I like your train of thought on how humanity should be put above everything else. I completely agree on this. The thigns that you see on tv, cozying up on your couch at home make ur guts squirm. There are people falling prey to violence everyday every minute and there's nothing you can do about it but watch it on news and change the channel instinctively to avoid all the blood n gore. But it's only the victims who go through such crap know the pain. U me can do nothing about it but watch. One feels pretty much helpless.

Just chanced upon your blog, great stuff going on here. :)

I am in total agreement of your thoughts in this post.

"Hindi as the national language should be above than any regional language/mother tongue"...This sentence is nothing but faulty. Declaring Hindi as the national language is a baseless ignorance some people are exhibiting.

To quote from wiki.."The Constitution also allows for the continuation of use of the English language for official purposes. Article 345 provides constitutional recognition to "official languages" of the union to include any language adopted by a state legislature as the official language of that state. In effect, there are "official languages" at the state and center level but no one "national language". Kindly ask ashu to read the facts before putting forth such useless/ridiculous arguments.

Peace. :)

@keshi.. yes "Pissed off" does convey a lot abt ones thoughts.
I think in that discussion, people got carried away Keshi.

Ur aim was to say what u feel abt sumthing and try make ppl u'stand abt it rite?I think U n Xh have done that very clearly. U have opened up several minds(including mine). Now some ppl will accept that their mind is opened up n some wont...They either get into the defensive mode(even tho they begin to see the point ur making) or simply refuse to think in any direction that is diff from their original train of thot...Its human, it happens.
U can't do much abt it. So we just have to rest the case after having said our thots.

Great post! Many are forever putting pressure on other cause they are feeling pressured themselves. I would like to think thats common and pretty natural but than again very miserable and upsetting. This is juz how the world roll.

Some of us can do something about it and some of us can just follow blindly.

But i have to agree with you to each his own. no one has a right to demand their beliefs over others.

***no one should be asked to respect/learn/speak/understand one particualr language over others, just cos it's the national language of your country?

i agree with you. I had an encounter with a workmate recently who insist that only indian songs are the best in the world. It irritated me when he expects me to think the same way as him. haiz..

Take care sweets.;)

Oh I think I am late !!
Anyways, Keshi, I still think you got it wrong what Ashu was trying to convey and I'll stick to it. I don't have anything against you or her but later the way you said...

"btw Ashu n Cuckoo, u can hate me all u want but I really cant stand false pride on issues that neednt be issues." really hurt me. Did I mention anything like that to you Keshi ?

It was her view and I was trying to convey to you the meaning.

All kind of people live in Indian metro cities, poor and rich.. literate/illiterate and so on...
There is always a percentage who does not understand the local language or another % for English and so on.
What's wrong if they announce in English, Hindi and the regional language ? Why so much hue & cry over that ?

Anyways, it is wrong to think or expect that everybody will agree with you. She has put her views on her blog and you have put yours.

So, chill girl !!

Enjoy :-)

ty Badsha that was an interesting view.

**Now You might like Hindi or not but You need to respect it as a national language and what pisses me off is people neglecting it, not even neglecting but even hating it.

what is RESPECT here? And what is NEGLECTING here? And lastly what is NATIONAL?

I agree on all ur other points mentioned abt racism etc.

**becuase no insane person is gonna read this and the one who is gonna read is already sane.

not really Badshah. There r alot of INSANE in blogville too. :) Maybe not murderers and terrorists, but ppl who think only from their point of view. And thats enough to draw borders.

I agree but if it's a matter of Convenience, then why cant those ppl use the language thats CONVENIENT to them? :) as simple as that. Why make National languauges and make it mandatory etc? I mean Hindi is 'easier' for some ppl...but not for not ALL.

Anaha hey WC n ty!

**This sentence is nothing but faulty. Declaring Hindi as the national language is a baseless ignorance some people are exhibiting.

I know that some countries hv this 'National' language being forced upon ppl and thats what I dun like...I dun like demanding.

Here in Aus the main language is English but u should see how much they value other languages too. They even have written Driving Tests in Chinese, Greek etc for ppl who dun really speak English.

Language is just a concept of conveying a message..thats all that matters. RESPECT and PRIDE should be mixed with it.

**To quote from wiki.."The Constitution also allows for the continuation of use of the English language for official purposes. Article 345 provides constitutional recognition to "official languages" of the union to include any language adopted by a state legislature as the official language of that state. ty for that great piece of information Anaha! And it makes very good sense.

**Kindly ask ashu to read the facts before putting forth such useless/ridiculous arguments.

I dunno if Ashu and some others r speaking w.o. thinking what the common man wants..instead they seem to think in terms of NATIONAL pride.

tnxx Anaha u raised some good points!

"yeah I loved Indian music until I met u"

when u say ABOVE THAN, what d u mean Cuckoo?

:)

**What's wrong if they announce in English, Hindi and the regional language ? Why so much hue & cry over that ?

No one's losing their marbles over this except Ashu :) She's the one who was 'pissed off' that the shop didnt make the announcement in Hindi. Nothing's wrong with Hindi or English or Marati being used, as long as ppl r comfy with wut they speaking. We dun hv a prroblem. It seems u and Ashu do. :)

**Anyways, it is wrong to think or expect that everybody will agree with you.

did I say she has to agree with me? I dun think I wrote such a line in this post at all. This is my view, just like that was her views. We hv agreed to disagree and have moved on too.

**chill

I dunno why u and Ashu keep telling me to chill. LOL Im prettty chilled. Its the nationalists who r 'pissed off' that need to chill, not me.

I guess treating it as any other language and not consider it as a language that might pose threat to the existence of the regional language. Neglecting as in boycotting its use in schools, making MORCHAS against its use and abstaining its use completely. And by NATIONAL I guess national means nation wide.

**RESPECT
** I guess treating it as any other language and not consider it as a language that might pose threat to the existence of the regional language.

ok but if u want Hindi to be treated as ANY OTHER language, then why IMPOSE it? ppl think of it as a THREAT only when its being FORCED upon em.

**NEGLECTING
**Neglecting as in boycotting its use in schools, making MORCHAS against its use and abstaining its use completely.

Does it matter what some ppl choose to do? Its their actions and their own consequences. How does it affect u or any other Hindi speaking person?

**And by NATIONAL I guess national means nation wide.

I agree. But just cos it's NATIONAL, it doesnt have to be forced upon ppl. And from Ashu's post, she was EXPECTING and strongly DEMANDING that that shopkeeper announced in Hindi too. And thats not right. They spoke what they u'stood and perhaps what they think was FIT for their customers.

Dun u think so Badshah?
