A Life Less Ordinary

Life In My Mailbox...

Yes, the moment I have been waiting for weeks, just arrived last night. When I went home after work, I had a special package in my mailbox...love and cuddles in the form of a letter...a heart beating to live...longing to love, learn and grow. It was my first ever sponsored child's documents with his pic, and family details (refer to my last post about him here). As my dear friend SMM asked me to introduce this lil boy to all of you too, I'm doing this post especially for SMM, for darling Margie and for anyone else who's interested. I'd like to call him baby Dee cos his name starts with the letter D (sorry I'm not allowed to display his pic or make his personal details all that public). He lives in a wartorn area in Sri Lanka with his parents, he's 4yrs old and comes from a very poor home, he's the only child in the family so far, he doesn't go to school and his hobby is playing Ball games. When I opened the package up, saw his small face, quizzical eyes, that sweet I-don't-like-being-photographed look, very old shirt and read his details too, I was in tears. Not cos of baby Dee's status, but cos of all the trivial things people give so much importance to in life. Even on the net, people just cannot live and let live. And this was a child from an extremely war-stricken area in SL, and he's only asking for a chance to LIVE. Nothing less nothing more. And what do some so called grown-ups do...constantly bicker, hurt each other, whinge about nothing, engage in power struggles, feel sorry about themselves for the slightest thing and think about themselves only. How very immature, stupid and selfish.

A Long Way From Home...
Man life is simple! It's not demanding...it doesn't ask you for anything. It's just there...it's beautiful...it's pure. Why make it so complicated? Why twist it, turn it, bend it, break it, abandon it? Why are we leaving Life behind when all it wants us to do is embrace it? No it's not even about our many Wants, and no I'm not telling you to feel sorry for this kid or praise me for my deeds again. It's about LIFE...it's about how it's just there and how we don't make the most of it. Like Margie said in her post today, we are blessed with the joys of so many ordinary things. Life is in the ordinary things we come across every single day. And children like baby Dee and these 2 kids in the pics don't even have those ordinary things in their lives, such as fresh clothes, shoes, security, sound health, a comfy bed, education, a clean bathroom, 3 meals a day, Internet, telephones, Maccas, movies, ice cream, parks, toys, birthday parties, hugs and kisses, a glass of milk....guys can you see how far away some of us are from the simple LIFE? (pic: a street child in India living off basically nothing)

Staying In Touch With Life...
We have added so many things on top of life. See how far we have gone from Life...how much we have run away from what LIFE really is. Strip off all your worries...remove all your masks...tear off all your disappointments. Just be for a minute. What do you get now? Life staring back at you, not one inch away from you, not one bit different to you. We don't need
much to live...we don't need to run so much or gain so much distance to live. So why have we left Life behind? Where are we going so fast? We are a long way from home.
Baby Dee is an example of LIFE in it's purest forms...a life longing to live...a life breathing...a life that don't want anything else but LIFE. (pic: a starving child in Ethiopia finding it unable to cope)

Some Prayers Are Better Unanswered
Did you miss your coffee today? Perhaps something didn't turn out the way you wanted it to? Is the kitchen tap leaking? Those nice shoes arent on sale anymore? Maybe you forgot to buy your shampoo on the way home last night? Or maybe your friend didn't return your call. Perhaps your electricity bill is higher this time or your phone just died. Or you may be cursing God that he didn't answer your prayers? Don't panic...without all of that, Life still breathes. These children do.

That is lovely Keshi, glad that makes you officially a mom, be proud. I wanted to see his face too but I understand that you can't post.
Make sure the money you pay goes only to him and when you visit, make sure you visit him personally. They just showed slumdog M kid actors in Mumbai slums. While most kids benefited by the money they earned by the movie, one boy's parents have spent all his money and he was crying that he is poorer than before!!! I felt so bad, directors who paid him should have invested for his future somehow. His life worse now.
Anyway, we have Shiva Ratri on Monday. Since Arvind isn't going to be Sunday and Monday, I have cook for tomorrow.
Have a great weekend, hugs to you. Enjoy your son. Now we have something in common!!:)

I've soo much and I didn't realise it till now :(

This was an eye opener, esp the pics...

And as far as what you're doing is concerned, just amazing! Amazing, really!

Maybe, one day, I'd have such an opportunity too to adapt a child, when I start earning!

I'll try 2 be truthful said...

the last para was a clincher :)

yes the children of god do live on , and here we are cribbing about small things 0f life.

keep up the great work &love :)

Margie said...

I can just imagine how your heart skipped a beat when you got that special package last night.
Pure joy, I am sure!
I'm so happy for you, Keshi:):):)

And then all you expressed about life and life's meaning is so very true....thank you, Keshi for your awareness and sharing it here.
It was lovely and so meaningful!

My life is just about ordinary days and ordinary moments but I treasure them!
When I think about all those with misfortunes, children who go hungry, I cry for them and I am thankful for what I have!
And, I want to share what I have with others, even if it's only a smile!
Noone has perfect days but there can be perfect moments in our days...if only we took the time to find them, they are there!

As I arise to begin a new day, I feel blessed as I have been given another day to treasure and enjoy all my perfect moments!

May precious little Dee bring you much joy as I know you will bring much joy to his life!

HUGGGGGZ!

Margie

Keshi,

Let me just say if all think the same way there would be hevean on this very planet itself. Bravo. All you said had been in my way all through. I always say be content with what you have and thank the Almighty for that. You should strive for more but not hanker and achieve it with hard work. When you feel sad about something you donot have, look at those who donot have even what you have. While in Air Force I saw this caption on the desk of our Logistic Officer " I kept cribbing about my shoes till I saw a man with no feet ". How true!

Take care

Hi,Keshi-that was so touching! And,a real eye-opener. The last few days, I've been wondering-what makes me feel down/serious/annoyed,etc? If I make a comparison between where I was and where I am,I'm supposedly shades higher. So,why do many emotions not come as easily to me now as they used to,say,in school days? And,the answer is-simplicity.That's what is missing to some extent today. The more the choices, the more complicated life becomes. And,even though I'm one of the last people to get enamoured of these materialistic things, the effects still remain courtesy people around!
---
So,this post, the pics of the two lil guys who are still surviving against all odds, and, your sponsored child's details-made me really sit up and take notice! Thanks and TC!!If you are allowed and do write to the lil guy,add a big hug from me too!!:)

Hi Keshi ... I'm sort of back on a part time basis.
Nothing in the world saddens me like the thought, picture or story of children who have to struggle so hard just to see the next day arrive. they are abused, forgotten, ignored and feared by so many of us. You did an absolutely wonderful thing for a child somewhere in the world. I have done the same and while he may be tens of thousands of kilometers away, I like you know that we have done some good for somebody in the world.

I so agree :)

alot of ppl need to wake up from their dumb dreamlands!

Hey Keshi...that's great. That's something like what CRY does. However what i do is I give a certain sum of money for a year for a family. We don't adopt the child/ family like your doing.

But then when you get these periodic reports and letters etc. from the child, it just makes it so much more personal.

There are so many of us who talk of doing things like this, but very few of us actually do it. Keshi, I'm sure your mother is really proud of you today and so is your dad whose looking down from the heavens on you and Baby Dee :)

aww ty darlin Rat for spreading the msg! ur doing a good deed there.

**she was exclaiming how cud u do this? u don't know wr he came from, caste religion back ground and stuff.. it was my turn to get shocked..

Actually I hv nothing to say abt such ppl LOL!

jokes apart, adopting a child is not abt any of that. What she said defeats the whole purpose.

aww Starry I didnt mean to make anyone feel bad tho. HUGS!

We r all human and we can get carried away in our selfish lil worlds every now n then. Thats ok. but we must always rem to come bak to LIFE.

**we take life for granted and do not ever look beyond our four walls.

so true! I used to be like that...now Im realising wut a short life we hv and wut ALOT we can do in that short time period.

:) I hope to do as much as I can before my time ends.

I hv been given a good family, a great childhood, an education, a job, enough money to survive and fun n laughter in my life. I may not be rich but I know that there r so many ppl out there who dun hv even 0.01% of what I hv in my life. So that means, I CAN help such a kid, with whatever I hv been GIVEN.

yes...if only all those ppl can stop spending their money, time and energy on useless wars, just imagine how many more kids will be happy right now?

I wanna meet Baby Dee some day...thats my dream now :) Not to tell him that I HELPED him...but I just wanna see the smile on his face when I first see him hehe.

**If the USA had spent twenty percent of the cost in unecessary warfare on developement and humanitarian aid in under developed areas of our world. there would be thousands less war widows living off the parish and certaily less Fatcat Industrialists salting away their nefarious blood money in dodgy overseas tax havens.

I always wished for a DAY like that!

Hats off to you Keshi and wonder how I missed this post. If every human being is like you who adopts someone, we do not need an orphanage or children roaming without parents.
