I'm back guys. Thanks for the wonderful messages and yeah I had a FANTASTIC break. Loads of things to share with you on that, but first of all I want to share the story of a little girl from Perth, Western Australia (pic on left). Little Sophia was only 8yrs old and was with her 14yr old brother, 11yr old sister and her uncle last Monday in a popular Perth shopping centre. Sophia wanted to go to the toilet, so while the others waited outside for her (just metres away from the toilets), Sophia went in but didn't come back. She was raped and murdered inside the toilet by a 20yr old man and it only took him few minutes to do the gruesome act. It was a shocking tragedy that got the whole of Australia together last week. This should never have happened and that too while her family was very close by not knowing what was happening inside the toilet...she's only 8yrs old for goddsakes! It was such a horrible crime that she was left dead on the floor with no clothes on and most of her bones broken. How can anyone, I mean any human ever do such a thing to a little girl? I can't understand how and why people get such cruel and animalisitic thoughts in them that they can really go and do something so violent like that? Imagine the horror, pain, helplessness and the fear she must have felt at the time? Little Sophia will be laid to rest today, and her Year 3 classmates wil be honoring her and bidding her farewell in a public funeral in Perth. One good lesson we can learn from this horrible tragedy: Love CAN conquer Evil...so please let Love come in to your hearts and never let evil win over. And those who are parents, if you have small children with you, always be close to them...never leave them alone in public places. This could have been your daughter, sister, friend or neighbor. I can't even imagine what Sophia's family must be going through right now.
I want to say that no matter how much fun I had last week, I can't get Sophia out of my head. She's in my prayers and in my thoughts. We won't forget the brave little girl you were and the love that you shared in your short time here on Earth with the people you knew. Goodbye Sophia, it's your time to live with the angels...

ReplyDelete...many things happening here in Japan too nowadays , we're also scared of such crimes now so we bought Rina her own cellphone w/ GPS so that when shes playing w/ her friends( sometimes we let her but not always and probably i go w/ them in the nearby park) we need to know her exact location and hubby never let me go to work again just to take care of rina and look after her all the time.
..whats happening to the world? where can our children play safe now?..that sometimes even with our presence something will happened to them like this??

there are plenty of human out there who are so depraved that they are still animals ... if u remember u once wrote about punishments in the middle-east ... now dun u think the guy who did this warrants such a punishment and more :-/ ... IMO he doesn't deserve to live the least ... not like me to say but still ... he deserves to experience as much a painful death as that kid did :(

incidents like these come into the limelight, hog the newsprint and airwaves and ppl are angry about them. it scares mothers to send their children out and fathers are constantly worried anout their families. in general, ppl carry fear in their hearts. after a few days, the hype dies down and ppl move on with their lives... the residual fear remains, but nobody does anything about it. after some time, another incident happens and the cycle repeats itself. it has become just so common in India... it angers me that these things happen and it angers me that i can't do anything about it.

Sophia didnt deserve such an end, nobody does! Rapists are monsters and dont deserve any bit of sympathy.

Painfull isnt it, but i believe being helpless is much more painfull. And the feeling of the parents not being there, that was worst. Why on earth do the young ones have to suffer because of lust, because of lunatics and bastards/ sadists who we ourselves helped flourish. They are children fof gods sake, god...doesnt exists. We must see the change.
Sometimes we take liberty to extreme extents, but I believe there must be some kind of conservativeness. Maybe a lookout, some kind of life-guard in all malls, public places should be established. Everyday when the children go to school, parks etc.
This is so sad, I pray that the person who raped her is caught or better still die.
This is world we are living now. Even her smiles haven’t finish, but she is not in the earth. The court should give seviar punishment for that guy. ReplyDeleteVery Sad story to hear the story of Little Angel "Sophia". There was similar story in singapore (while I were there) where 10 year or so girl was happened to be kidnapped, raped and murdered by her mother's friend. It took a week or so to find the girl's body. I guess the man was sentenced to death...if not for life in prison...I dont really remember the sentence but it was indeed a serious one. Specially country like singapore deals very hardly with such crimes...
If death penalty is accepted in Australia...The guy whoever did such cruel act deserves the maximum penalty. Once I wrote in my blog what the purpose of Death penalty as it cant undo what happend and cant allow the person to reform. But Now I realize in this case it should be for deterrence of the rest of the masses from committing the same crime...
This is terrible, and for it to happen in a crowded shopping mall. Parents should accompany their children to the toilets as much as possible.

If this happened in an isolated and deserted place, I would have been able to comprehend it and blame the family for leaving their beloved daughter to wander so far away and fall into terrible hands. But this happened within a busy public place.
Should we now ask for security guards to be stationed in public toilets?
How did a male predator gain access into a female toilet and he was not discovered before he pounced on an innocent child and murdered her?
When I hear or read such terrible things, I know that the devils are in our midst.

Whatever sort of social deviant did this cowardly cruel act should be executed, resuscitated and then executed again.
Predators like this have a 99.9% rate of recidivism and are virtually untreatable.
At the very least all of them must be completely removed from society.
I lose all sense of justice and compassion with these bastards.
I'm painfully aware of my shortcomings when it comes to dealing fairly(?) with these sociopathic lowlifes. It is terrible that we must hover over our children these days and make them so paranoid of strangers but...here again a parent's worst nitghmare came to life...if a genie granted me three wishes I would donate the first one to parents of child victims. Revenge may be wrong but children are too valuable to waste on some halfassed social experiment..
actually, this incident not only happens to 8 yr olds but also to 20plus year old girls. it's happening everywhere. in the airport's bathroom. nowadays, parents wants their kids to be independent. they have no idea what WORLD we live in. is it such a hassle to walk your own kid to the restroom? as much as i feel bad for the kid. parents have to remember that they're responsible for the safety of your kids.

What my mum said was that she never let us alone when we were little...she always walked with us to toilets/parks/shops etc. While she is really sorry for Sofia's parents, she said that she never sent me or my sis alone with an uncle even when we were kids. I dunno if it's the right/wrong thing to do, but parents should hold their kids hands until they r big enough to look after themselves.
I dun think it's a racist attack..cos the guy was caught straight away and he seems to be a loner - apparently a child abuser.

yeah...Sofia's mum is apparently mourning so much that she didn't wanna even talk at the funeral. They gave a letter to everyone who attended the funeral saying that they hope to meet Sofia some day again in Heaven and that she will show them the way there. Isn't it so heart-breaking!

he was caught an hour after the act, while shopping ard! Sofia's brother saw this suspicious man coming out of the toilet area so they went and searched for her and found her naked body in a disabled toilet. So the brother identified the guy and now he's in jail.

yes. all the Mall toilets here have a similar architecture. A long corridor leads to the Female and Male toilets at the end in a secluded area. So if a kid is let alone to go to the toilet, he/she has to walk a fair bit by him/herself. It's so easy for anyone to snatch them then. Since Sofia was 8yrs old, she must have been capable of going by herself and maybe used to it. But what a tragedy it ended in. Her uncle who was with her at the time should have gone with her and stood outside the toilets till she came out. I'd do that if I'm with a kid. How careless can adults be sometimes.

ur right...he's caught and apparently he abused (not murdered) another lil girl in 2003 but he was set free!!! What a huge mistake the authorities made by setting him free after a minor jail term. That cost a life!

this Mall apparently had 10 security officers! But none near the toilets. Female and Male toilets r usually located close to each other in Malls here. That's one big security issue that cannot be changed easily due to building plans. Also cos of Sofia's death, now Aussie govt is bringing in new security near toilets, which is a good thing.

well he must have waited near the long corridor looking for a prey. And Sofia was alone at the wrong place and at the wrong time. Apparently no one else was in the toilets. He had snatched her and locked her in a Disabled toilet while he did his crime. When the brother and uncle came looking for her, it was too late.

But it will happen today in Canada, India, the U.S., Australia, and every other country.
Like someone else said, these things touch us with sadness and outrage and disgust for the moment, but then they fade away.
Our brains and hearts aren't built to absorb this kind of ugliness, so we shut down and run back into the safety of our own houses and slam the door shut and say we won't let it happen to us.
But it still can and does.
And what of the 20-year-old guy who did this? He'll be protected by Australia's rights and freedoms legislation, he'll take up resources and time in the country's prison system, he'll be a goldmine for lawyers, the debates about capital punishment or chemical castration will rage on again...
And none of us will ever be able to understand what cracks he fell into to turn out this way, to be capable of doing something like this, and so it will continue on and on and on.
His lack of humanity as we understand it, and her death, are byproducts of the far too rapid overdevelopment of a species that isn't wired for it.
That's about as much sense as I can make of it.

he married a girl in the call centre
together they take home a salary of 1 Lakh
they have no children
they work on different shifts
i am not buying dis
more likely they dont want to have children yet
dis is the right child bearing age though, for a healthy child

ReplyDeleteu may be right...but we cant blame it all on working mums. Sometimes non-working and good mums end up with beastly children too. And some working mums end up with great kids too. It's all in the individual with a lil bit of help from the loved-ones too.

It is truly difficult to comprehend that kind of act - to get your heart and mind around the fact that one person is capable of doing that to another.
ReplyDeleteSomeone like that must get twisted early on. I mean, it's not even really an animal-like act. Animals don't behave that badly. Somehow sexuality gets involved with violence with some males. I've never been able to "get it" emotionally - to feel what that would be like. But it obviously happens.
And without trying to make excuses for this guy or suggest he should be anything but locked up for life, what he did wouldn't, thank God, even be a "temptation" for most of us. So you wonder how he got that way.

ReplyDeleteGood to see you back. People are really becomig animals. Here in Phoenix I think it is because everything is so crowded people snap that and they let sex offenders out of prison. I don't think a few years in prison are going to rehabilitate them.

ReplyDeletehey girl, here in Aus all Mall toilets have a long corridor to walk upto. Then there's Male/Female toilets close to each other. Apparently this girl was snatched while on her way to the Female toilets...she was taken to the Male toilets and then the whole thing has happened. It was a very bad time as apparently no one was in the toilets when she went there. A horrible tragedy!
