Peace For Peace

I want all my friends in Mumbai to confirm their SAFETY. Please leave a comment here saying you're OK. Uttsy I rang you but it went to your voicemail. I really hope all of you are ok!

I felt so much fear and anguish as I read the news about the Mumbai blasts cos I have many friends there. I couldn't think straight for a minute 'cos I can never understand the motive behind inflicting pain upon another in this very violent manner. Tuesday's
Mumbai Blasts only proved even more that terrorism is just a waste of energy, time and lives. This is the exact thing that has been happening in Sri Lanka for the past 20+ years bewteen the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) and the SL Govt - a raging war between the Tamils and the Sinhalese that killed thousands over the years including few who were very close to my heart. The LTTE uses women and children in their suicide squads. Some suicide warriors of the world believe they get frikkin virgins in Heaven when they die this way (how can you even get to know a virgin with a heavily blasted p#nis)?? How utterly dumb is that! 20+ years and no peace yet for SL but we see only more and more senseless deaths. This only proves that from terror we can never achieve security. From violence we can never achieve peace. From foolishness we can never achieve wisdom. So what are these terrorists really trying to do? How cranium-deprived are these terrorists to really think that all those who died last night (and many other innocents in history) can bring them peace? Do they know what peace really is? If they knew it would they be using terror to achieve it? Why can't people who want freedom/peace so much, think like Gandhi or Mandela and act peacefully for peace? Corrupt governmets may be frustrating but terror IS CERTAINLY NOT THE WAY!

Those who are dead will never come back to see if their untimely deaths served any purpose at all. Those who use terror as a means for achieveing peace will never get it either. Peace is the only way to Peace and until we realise that, no one is going to have real peace. What is Peace to you?

  6. Peace I don't think is the solution for the terrorism. Peace for peace is the solution for those who understand the meaning of peace.

  7. Interesting method for spreading the word of Mohammed, eh? Ah well, we had our Inquisition and the crusades. Unfortunately it is always the poor people on the street that wind up hurt no matter which god commands the "true believers" to martyr themselves.

Senseless violence, but the terrorists obviously feel strongly about their beliefs. Will we ever understand their motives?

It seems more and more like terrorism is part of life for all of us. I don't think there will ever be a day when we are no longer at risk.

I agree they dun u'stand what peace is. I dun believe they have cranium cos if they do, they wont be this stupid. Calculated murder isnt brainy - any loser can do that. To hold ur anger and to work for peace in a peaceful manner takes more brains and courage.

  57. innocent lives... bloodshed ... communication systems jammed ... chaos and confusion... life strandled, death would seem better for some, than life, at this time.

and there is only one reason why all this happen, again and again and again, coz we do not have any respect for human life. And that is reflected in our governance of the country. When 9/11 happened in US, the whole of world and the US came up with attacking Afganistan in a very swift action, but when parliament was attacked, when so many srinigar blasts happened, when so many such other incidences happened, India was almsot silent. Nothing much was spoken beyind condolences and some angry words against the terrorists. And then back to normal, life as usual. For most of us, it was just and incidence, something to re-collect at times, but for those who were victims, they, their families will never be the same again. So many families would have lost their sole bread earner. A well settled, happy middle class, family comes to a poverty line. Just imagine what trauma they would have gone through. A child studying in a good private school, now either doesnt sudy at all or studies in a small public school, fate of so many lives, has been decided in a few moments. And what does our Government does, silence.

I feel ashamed sometimes, of the shyness of our country to act on its own. When we know that 99% of the terrorism is instigated from the neighbouring country's soil, why not go and attack it, initially diplomatically and later maybe millatarily. Why dont we seek support of international community in taking to task the culprit nations which let terrorism thrive on their soil.

I feel so damm helpless and feel like screaming aloud, for the pain suffered by the victims and theur family.

We cant keep taking this and in the end get an stupid statement tht Mumbai will wakeup, they have seen more, things will be normal!

Every religion has their fringe groups . Heavy doses of religious control causes madness ! The preachers , preach "our god is the real god" . "All others who do not believe what we believe are the devil and sinners and should die" !

  79. Terrorism as a "waste of energy, time and lives" - that was one of my main reactions to this too. Like what do they expect to ACCOMPLISH? So they've got hundreds of grieving individuals... and what does this have to do with India's government?? How is it supposed to change anything??

I can't imagine what goes on in their minds. I mean, all that planning and work to pull it off, so it's different from a spontaneous murderous fit of rage...

Actually, maybe this is unpopular, but I really do wish there were more publicity given to the terrorists aims and thinking. I don't think there's the slightest risk that this would legitamize their tactics in the eyes of the larger world, and it seems to me that understanding, as much as possible, what's going on in their minds could only help...

    , , Dear Terrorist,, ,

Even if you are not reading this we don't care. Time and again you
    tried to disturb us and
disrupt our life - killing innocent civilians by planting bombs in
    trains, buses and cars. You
have tried hard to bring death and destruction, cause panic and fear
    and create communal
disharmony but everytime you were disgustingly unsuccessful. Do you
know how we pass our life in
Mumbai? How much it takes for us to earn that single rupee? If you
wanted to give us a shock
then we are sorry to say that you failed miserably in your ulterior
    motives. Better look
    elsewere, not here.

We are not Hindus and Muslims or Gujaratis and Marathis or Punjabis and
    Bengaliies. Nor do we
distinguish ourselves as owners or workers, govt.
employees or private employees. WE ARE MUMBAIKERS (Bombay-ites, if you
    like). We will not allow
you to disrupt our life like this. On the last few occassions when you
    struck (including the 7
deadly blasts in a single day killing over 250 people and injuring 500+
    in 1993), we went to
work next day in full strength. This time we cleared everything within
a few hours and were back
to normal - the vendors placing their next order, businessmen
finalizing the next deals and the
office workers rushing to catch the next train. (Yes the same train you
    targetted)

Fathom this: Within 3 hours of the blasts, long queues of blood
    donating volunteers were seen
outside various hospital, where most of the injured were admitted. By
    12 midnight, the hospital
had to issue a notification that blood banks were full and they didn't
    require any more blood.
The next day, attendance at schools and office was close to 100%,
trains & buses were packed to
the brim, the crowds were back.
The city has simply dusted itself off and moved one - perhaps with
    greater vigour.

We are Mumbaikers and we live like brothers in times like this. So, do
    not dare to threaten us
with your crackers. The spirit of Mumbai is very strong and can not be
    harmed.

Please forward this to others. U never know, by chance it may come to
    hands of a terrorist in
Afghanistan, Pakistan or Iraq and he can then read this message which
    is specially meant for
    him!!!

  82. Dear Keshi,
What can we say that has not been said in the past?

Have we not pleaded for peace?
Have we not prayed for peace?

But the lunatics im our midst have chosen the path of death. And to unleash their reign of terror on the innocent ones.

Personally, I would be happier if God brings everything to an end.
Because, I can no longer bear these agonies of the ironies of life anymore.

    I am tired.

    Oh, God!
    I am tired.
    No man can save us.
    And we cannot save ourselves.
I don't know what to say anymore.
    Finis.

  83. My heart goes out to them affected by the blast..May God be with them at this crucial moment..

Terrorism is bad. We all know that. However, terrorists never realise that. Such people can't be allowed to continue with their violent acts. They should be actively hunted down and treated in the same manner as they treat innocent people.

I'm sure the Indian Government will do nothing about it, which is disgusting. Things would have been different if the government had reacted in a normal and self-respecting manner each time India was hit by a terrorist attack.

*May the souls of the innocent people killed rest in peace.Amen*

  84. Its just so incredibly sad, isn't it? What a waste of beautiful life. Your post and tribute to the victims is very honorable. You have a very good heart, and its people like you that keeps the glimmer of hope for a peaceful world alive in all of us!

  85. I know how you feel Keshi. It is gut wrenching and horrible.

May those that suffered in this horrible horrible act of hatred rest in peace and may God bless them.

  87. woo! lots of activity on the blogosphere, alright. And I used to think it was just a cheap and easy medium to publish.

Thanks for the visit, plus for the comment. Is encouragement, in whatever small way.

You seem to be really disturbed by the Mumbai blasts. Was it because you know people in Mumbai? What about the Gaza Strip? What about Somalia? What about Afghanistan, Iraq, Phillipines, Argentina?

Don't take it otherwise, but you can take this as a good opportunity to work out some philosophical points. Especially this: do we stay blind and hypocritical to human misery until it affects our own selfish interests, or do we really worry about it and do something? For if not the latter, then it's as good to worry not at all!

And the last para is meant for all your readers, too.

    Cheers!

  88. quoting someone's comment in here... "people do not value lives these days"

There is so much life out there, that it has lost its value over time. Add selfishness to that and the value of life becomes zero

  89. These are lyrics to Where is the love by Black Eyed Peas... this song kept playing in my mind....

What's wrong with the world mama?
People living like aint got no mamas
I think the whole worlds addicted to the drama
Only attracted to the things that bring you trauma
Overseas yeah we tryin to stop terrorism
But we still got terrorists here livin
In the USA the big CIA the Bloodz and the Crips and the KKK
But if you only have love for your own race
Then you only leave space to discriminate
And to discriminate only generates hate
And if you hatin you're bound to get irate
Yeah madness is what you demonstrate
And that's exactly how anger works and operates
You gotta have love just to set it straight
Take control of your mind and meditate
Let your soul gravitate to the love y'all

  90. heyy mate!

i am glad that none of your friends (esp uttara) in mumbai were affected.

agree with your post completely. it is silly to expect freedom or justice by killing innocents.
but terrorists who do these things are not fighting for freedom or anything positive( they just pretend they do) they just want revenge or power, nothing else.
they are just criminals like murderers etc. and should be treated as such.

anyway glad to hear that citizens of mumbai defied the terrorists and were back in business yesterday. good for them.

    have a great day!

Thats so true. Their lives will never be the same again. They just have to somehow move on. And all that the govt can do is sit and pass condolences..u r so right mate!

What can we really do? I feel so helpless too..cos all I can do is just blog abt it and I feel useless.

**and it seems to me that understanding, as much as possible, what's going on in their minds could only help...

My blog is also not 'easy' to publish cos I take alot of time to think and write abt what I feel making sure I convey something valuable to the ppl who read this.
So it may be 'cheap' and 'easy' for u to blog, but certainly not for me :)

**You seem to be really disturbed by the Mumbai blasts. Was it because you know people in Mumbai? What about the Gaza Strip? What about Somalia? What about Afghanistan, Iraq, Phillipines, Argentina?

yes Im disturbed by the Mumbai blasts cos I have loved-ones there. Now isnt that a natural re-action to something like this? Or am I supposed to just sit and say nothing abt it just cos it happened in Iraq too and there's hunger in Somalia blah blah blah. Yeah there's alot of tragedies iard the world but Im not a goddess with 1000 hands to write 1000 posts abt it on the same day. Let's concentrate on Mumbai for now. 127. *sigh*
cheap and easy as compared to traditional publishing media. And even as compared to setting up your own website. Anyone typing out serious thoughts is not cheap, nor is it easy to arrange said serious thoughts in any decent order. I'm not 'looking down' on you.

I have nothing to 'like' or 'dislike'. I read, I commented. You reply, I reply -- it goes on.

As for doing something - you're doing something already by being a thread in the war against terrorism. Every little bit counts! Just try to remember your angst of the moment for the years to come, and to pass on your fear/worries to people around so that there's a net around Terrorism. That smart enough a suggestion?

U r so right..it's all cos of RELIGION. Why do ppl get so hynotised by some religious debris that dun help them to be better ppl anyways? I still dun get it.

U r spot on abt bringing up kids in a religion-less manner. Religious brainwash is the main reason for most of terrorism in today's world. How sad!

It's important to separate religion from its practice. I'm sure you know all the arguments, so why throw out the dog with the dish? Religion offers a lot of good things. Its a stage in man's development. Oh, by the way, I'm a hardcore atheist these days myself.

    Okey-dokey! Cheers..

Uttsy is just saying that u too will be there to pick me up at the airport :):)

**cheap and easy as compared to traditional publishing media.

thats true but then u didnt have to bring in that 'cheap and easy' convo into this post - this post wasnt abt advantages of blogging.

    **That smart enough a suggestion?

I believe it is so...but it didnt sound like u meant it that way in ur very first comment. But thats ok.

**Religion offers a lot of good things. Its a stage in man's development.

Ur right...but it's 'religion' itself that makes man an animal. Faith/Philosophy in someone's life will for sure help in the spiritual aspects of his/her life...but religion and set rules/beliefs can kill.

  139. Keshi, you say in your blog intro "if anything I blurt here offends anyone then I'm sorry" (or words to that effect); let me assure you, you're not unique in the world :D

My 'blog' must've shown you that I'm not even a semi-serious blogger. I am still surprised at the number of posts in this here medium - I would've thought that it's a very slow and time-lagged medium of communication; but perhaps for cubicle-dwellers it makes sense.

As for Religion, I'd like to repeat that most people don't even understand their religion. Maybe annther time, another thread.

And from your ID I can't be sure if you understand Hindi, but if you don't, one of your friends can tell you what I mean when I say "Arre Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar!"

    Cheers!

Zonko, not really...if u read my latest post :)

Anyways what does that Hindi line say?

    Keshi.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Word for word, it would translate as
"O! Heart on don't take, Dude!"

a more comprehensible translation would be "O! Don't take it to heart, Dude!"

    ReplyDelete
  144. Zonko thanks! And I wont take it to heart...Im usually a very expressive person and I want to be as clear as possible with all my friends here. hence all that :):)

Shakes hands with Zonko...we r mates now ;-)
