Devastated!

So a mere stingray took Stevie's life. He handled far more dangerous animals than that - large crocodiles and venomous snakes. But this true-blue Aussie legend never feared those animals or death. He continued doing what he loved the most and he was truly a free spirit. Larger than life Steve Irwin was a great ambassador for Australia and will be sorely missed! What a huge loss and it's a pretty big shock to the whole of Australia and the world. Poor Stevo you died doing what you loved the most. We need more people like you in this world. People who enjoy who they really are and do what they are meant to do on this Earth. Cos alot of people do what they are told to do but you were different. Stevie you did so much for this country and the world, educating people about animals at the same time entertaining all...and even if it meant risking your life you were more than happy to make others happy. A short 44yrs but what a full and complete life! If I had half your passion I could safely say my life was full. Only the good die young. Crikey you will be terribly missed mate!

Steve, from all of God's creatures, THANK YOU!

  1. Steve Irwin the crocodile hunter died with his boots on doing what he loved most.

Steve Irwin the crocodile hunter was no Crocodile Dundee. His dare devil romance with dangerous reptiles was quite a a terrifying spectacle even on TV and when I saw the breaking news this morning on the CNN, I was heart broken.

Thank God Steve Irwin had a life that made a difference.

    God bless.

  3. Very True Keshi! I loved his crocodile hunter series that was telecast in the discovery channel - what a great man he was I realized one day when he was crying on one of shows when one of his crocodiles (I think its name was Mary) died and they were preparing its funeral! I was just overwhelmed with the thought of how a man could be so dedicated and be passionate about his work! Lets only hope that more people learn from him on how to be more kind and passionate on this vast expanse of this lovely and small yet complex world!

  11. I am positive that no one was more shocked than Steve..the second after that stinger pierced his heart he would have thought ah f*ck! After a lifetime of looking death in the eye he falls victim to this..the second Australian in history to die from a stingray. CRIKEY!

He loved life, loved what he did, and he probably pumped more adrenalin through his veins than ten thousand regular people do in a lifetime! We are always drawn to Enthusiasm and he had it spades.

This was a swift way for him to exit and much kinder than if he had been (as we all expected) dragged underwater and snapped like a twig by a monstrous croc during one of his shows.

    Crikey!

  19. After thinking about Steve all day I have decided that it is even more amazing that he actually lived as long as he did! I also found out that he is the 3rd Australian to die from a stingray.

On CNN they are calling it a Stingray attack! Hello. These cartillageous cousins of the shark are usually very docile. The ray threw up its tail as instinctual response because Steve was swimming right over top of it. It was a one in a million shot to have struck Steve's heart. The puncture combined with the venom would have resulted in an almost instant death.
He would have never blamed the fish for what happened.

A documentary camera crew filmed the event so lets see which media outlet gets a copy and sells the pictures
    ...start the clock.

    No worries Steve.

  20. I love that guy. I always watched his show after school. It's not on anymore, and we all miss it.

  27. His livewire personality was infectious and for millions around the world, he WAS what people thought Australia is...as much as 'roos, koalas, the platypus and kookaburras.

I think he got into a bit of hot water when he fed a croc while holding his infant baby a while ago, but he was bigger than life.

Saby if Steve was alive and it was u who died, he would never have said any of the mean things u said abt him.

And also rem that anyone could have died from a stingray barb. If Steve died while a croc stunt, then we can all say what u said. But he died swimming along the stingray. Police has viewed his last moments which was caught on camera. And the police have clearly stated that Steve was NOT irritating or trying to touch the animal. He was only just swimming nearby!

Thankyou for your tribute to Steve Irwin here, he means so much to my family here and my kids identify closely with his all being sucha young age.
Being a nurse I see people die every other day. I am so glad to be a part of their journey when they pass onto the next life. Some people have no significant others and so it is up to me as their nurse to be there to hold their hand. To utter the last words they are going to hear, to let them know it is ok to go now, to have no fear.
When the death is that of such a young vibrant person like Steve Irwin, we reflect on our own mortalities. We knoe our call could come any day. That is why we need to carry on and do the best we can for ourselves, for our family and friends and for the future generations. Steve worked so hard to have it this way, so we could breathe fresh air,so the ozone layer can cease to widen, so we can respect each other and every living creature on the Planet.
    You are lovely Keshi :)

hey Cazzie never apologise for not commenting here. U r always WC any time that suits u and even if u dun get time, I know u think abt me and thats enough to keep me smiling. TY n hugggggggggz!

Steve's death is a shock I'll never recover from. Why? Not cos I was such a crazy fan of him but cos the few moments I saw him on TV was enough to capture my heart completely. He was a CHILD at heart. A man who never lost his innocence or smile as he grew up. Someone we would hardly come across in life. He just got on with it and he never thought twice abt himself. He only cared abt all the animals and people's happiness. He was a rare.

Kids love him cos he's a kid in many ways. I can never forget the expressions on his face and the way he talks. One can only love him and once u start to love him u can never forget him.

Death is a hard thing to get over. I wonder how u do such a tough job. Cos if I was a nurse I would be sacked the next day...only cos I'd be crying too much each time someone dies. Ur a brave-heart and I admire u for that.

tnxxx for ur comforting words...they really helped. HUGGGGGGGGGGZ!

hope comments by others here comforted you.

i was so shocked when i heard this on the news.
he gave us all lot of entertainment .
though i did not like the fact he engaged in what imo were rather silly antics, there was no doubt he loved what he was doing. and it was his choice.
as you say we need more free spirits like him in this world.

  95. It made me real sad to see steve die this way. What is ironic is, in his list of the most dangerous creatures, the stingray was nowhere in the list.

I was told of Steve's death a day before i was to snorkel the reef. May his soul rest in peace. He definitely lived the life no one would have dreamt of. He lived life the way he wanted to, doing what he liked the most.

What i did not like was him holding his little baby in one hand and tackling the crocodile with the other hand. That was mighty unwise.

so true...the ppl who cried for him never shed crocodile tears..thats for sure!

    ~~Ari4u

tnxxx mate! Steve was a legend that no one can replace. He lived a whole life in each day of his life...he had that much energy and zest for life. whereas some ppl go on existing for a lifetime and wud never have experienced 1% of what Steve felt!

    ~~Deepsat

ur right...even I try to make up my mind thinking he died doing what he loved the most. And once he said on tv that he would even give his life to wildlife. So yeah, cos he was shooting 'Ocean's Dedaliest' while he died, I feel his soul will rest in peace.

    TY!

  98. Anyone here actually think about the name of the animal?

STINGray... Why am I not that shocked that a sting ray stung him?

  99. Alex WC!

D u mean Steve should have known better? Well this could have happened to anyone. And no he was not trying to touch it or something. The final moments of his life was captured on camera. And the Police confirmed that Steve was not touching the animal...just swimming past by. I call it an accident...something that would have happened to any diver.
