The Black Box

The feeling was great as I flew higher and higher. I delved every cloud and every rainbow. The beauty of it all was not something I thought would fade. The euphoria of being on top of the world dismissed any darkness that came my way. Ascending, and thats all I knew for the time being. The wuthering heights were frightening, yet picturesque and challenging. They made me bear my very soul to the fullest, highest and strongest that I ever could...I finally felt my purpose. Then I suddenly lost altitude...some things went wrong..some things that I expected would always be there, somehow ceased to exist. As I rapidly descended but managed to secure the new but much lower altitude, I came across a treacherous mountain's view. I knew my 'flight' was going to come to an end...a monster is about to collide with my very being...there it was, right in front of me, waiting for time and fate to take me closer to it, slowly yet rapidly bridging the gap between it and me...to end it all for me. A fatal collision, waiting to happen...yet I flew in strength and courage, towards the mountain that could not be avoided now, knowing I was heading for disaster. But there was no other way I'd have done it. If I were to avoid the monster ahead of me, I'd have to stop flying...stop the 'journey' that I was to take, and just be on ground, afraid to take risks and remain 'safe'. But that's not me. So, I hoped for the best, I cried a little, I prepared for the worst, then I died knowing that I LIVED. I'd rather ascend to know what it is to descend...I'd rather fly and die, than stay on ground and fade away...

-The Black Box Recording of Flight Keshi

If your 'flight' were to end all of a sudden, what would it's Black Box Recording read? Did you fly at all, or were you on ground? Did you experience the heights to know what the depths were? Did you reach the pinnacle of every moment somehow, or did you not fly cos you feared a crash? Or did you touch the rainbows that your soul could ever reach, and then descend in grace when things were not meant to be? Did you fly, swim, dive, climb, walk or sometimes did not move at all when you just couldn't? Did you go with the flow or did you just evade the flow altogether, in doubt and fear? What do you make out of this post? I'd love to know.

  5. ***Then I suddenly lost altitude...some things went wrong..some things that I expected would always be there, somehow ceased to exist.

is that ur cool which u lost....or is it the attitude..

**a monster is about to collide with my very being

is this monster the other part of u or the one u fear to come out of u...

***knowing I was heading for disaster. But there was no other way I'd have done it

there is always a choice if u wer to choose between bad and good and...if bad chosen then choice is single..

of all wat i got abt this post is that ...it tells the good and bad things of life which got to be faced even in the darkest moments....never loose hope and follow the flow as it cannot be changed at times...

and as per title it explains that u have written wat u felt wen the moment of life was very bad..as u had no choice but to follow the light to disaster...

    lovely black box recording...

  7. Hi Keshi

We’re cruising at a humorous altitude of 50, 000 perfect timings.

    We are hitting some turbulence.

We’re experiencing a sudden drop in our thought process.

    We are down to one-liners.

Will the passengers please find their thesaurus?

    Too late!

    Please assume your funniest positions.

We’re about to crash into seriousness.

  8. I'm a fighter, so my blackbox would record me swearing like a sailor trying to get the plane to at least crash land.

    A more poetic version:

I knew coming into this it wouldn't last, but we had some good times, right? I'm just sad it had to end this way and not breaking the land speed record. Don't let me pass out. I want to feel it. Thanks.

  13. My blackbox would say that I fought till the very end to deal with the monster (so long as the monster is not a dog. I'm extremely dog-phobic) - I'd run, hide, fly, swim, do whatever I could think of at the spur of the moment to save myself.

Btw what's wrong? What is the story behind this post - sounds like something has very much upset you

  20. well. My black box will record the things I will utter while trying to get things under control until I finally crash. On the back of my head my family will be there and whatever I speak there will be words 'Mummy','God' etc. If on the other hand I know the death is unavoidable, i would try to calm myself convincing myself if I was destined to die thus. In that case my blackbox will record nothing.
If the crash in the post is symbolical to hardships in life, than I will do I have always done, say nothing take it as it comes but fight till last moment to get everything alright.

  39. Keshi,

What to say? How can you convey such profound feelings so genuinely.
    Wonderful…

Coming to the post part, I just loved it. A thoughtful piece of writing! The way you compared your life with the flight journey was superb. The victories, the success and the flip sides.

I feel, we all need to go for such a trip only. Remaining grounded taking no risk of flying high is never a solution because you will never have the opportunity to see those wonderful things in this world. Unless you rise from your level, its impossible to see the world through our eyes, in a larger scope.

Once you reach the epitome of heights, I guess its inevitable to avoid a recession. But fearing the recession, I will never restrain me from flying high. By doing that I will be ostracising myself from the pleasures and energies of being ‘alive’ What is the ‘kick’ if you stay being normal throughout your life dreaming and fantasizing about the heights you could have achieved or others already had achieved. I prefer to fly high high. No matter any monster is waiting for me. The best I can do is fly high and be prepared for the monster to be in front of you anytime.. And I feel if flied properly your landing will be smooth. No way there can be an engine failure..!!

My blackbox will never speak negativism!

    :)

  42. Hi,Keshi..that was(a)Very lifelike flying situation(b)A neat comparison to real life for you.
    ---
That situation is something I've also experienced. That feeling of everything being perfect, leading to a stage of me literally wearing blinkers,so to speak. And,then, the downhill slide begins, leaving me breathless.
    ---
You know, I heard this home truth on a TV serial last week-namely,that the person who should be really happy, is the one going through agonizing moments. Because, after these moments he will only have happiness coming towards him. And,conversely, the happy person should be careful.
    ---
Good of you to always continue towards the mountain, taking the risks, rather than being safe, and remaining grounded.:)Where'd the challenge in life be,without such risks?
    ---
The Black Box recording on 'my flight',if it ended suddenly?Well,it'd probably say'Thank you, world.Whatever happened so far was for the best.Whatever is happening is for the best.'
Frankly,I feel that all the risks,be it leaving a secure job in India and moving here,or,changing the job here to another one,etc..every risk taken has been on my instinct, and, well, that's why I always say'take people's opinion, but, trust your instinct'.TC!:)

  45. Hmmm interesting thought.... let me see....Mine would record strategies how to give myself the best chance of surviving... and then having taken that position and while bracing for the crash it would have recorded my mind wander and dream ( not my fault apparently... i am an aquarian ... i am told we are all dreamers:D )...a fast forward of my life till now and how i would change when i survive the crash...and just briefly seconds before the crash it would record my realisation that i have let my mind wander too much and have failed my strategy... the final recording would be me swearing to myself.... if i had executed all strategies i had for life i would not have even been taking this flight in the first place...i would have been flying in my own personal jet ..

And after surviving the crash..first i am going to find that blackbox and destroy it ( i would not want my confessions fall in the wrong hands would i ?? ).... and next i would strategise how to finance that jet i intend buying:D

    Chalo Cheers and take care!

    it will read...
    "bachao bachao..m gonna crash...
oops no one can understand hindi...
Mayday mayday... flight life is gonna crash..save my ass ..sourish..don't panic at least u flew..think of the other who never flew before their death...stop it asshole...I m dying before anyone cud hear my flight...ahhhhh why the fuck plane maker fitted a blackbox ..son of bitches cud had fitted a spare parachute...why the hell
flight life doesn't have ejecting seat....and why the hell it's crashing....ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh boooooooom"

Really u will find this only I fear death more than anything...

Did you fly at all, or were you on ground?
I flew defn...ask the local police and my college..they will tell u I flew a Boing 747 :P but nowadays I fly in my own imagination..waiting for the rite time to fly away in space in mhy rocket

Did you experience the heights to know what the depths were?
people realize this feeling just before they crash...otherwise they always remain busy appreciating the beauty of heights .. and I crashed a lot :P..I shud be named just after Mr. Launchpad McQuack ..my fav disney ducktales character :P

Did you reach the pinnacle of every moment somehow, or did you not fly cos you feared a crash?
I've been in "Flight Love" more than 10 times and right now planning to get aboard the 11th ..what's ur guess the answer can be

Or did you touch the rainbows that your soul could ever reach, and then descend in grace when things were not meant to be?
I crashed ..I survived..and still I had every flight recordings safely stored in my memoirs with the same beauty while I was experiencing the flight...i fink the answer is yes "

Did you fly, swim, dive, climb, walk or sometimes did not move at all when you just couldn't?
if u see my flight fine record...I've dived a thousand times :P

Did you go with the flow or did you just evade the flow altogether, in doubt and fear?
I m a person..who always go with the flow with some occasional upstream swimming and that too is more than often :p
What do you make out of this post? I'd love to know..

  87. * They made me bear my very soul to the fullest, highest and strongest that I ever could...I finally felt my purpose.

That is climbing your ladder of success with complete focus on you goal, purpose.

    * I rapidly descended but managed to secure the new but much lower altitude, I came across a treacherous mountain's view.

The conditions around you change. What was once the right direction needs course correction. But by the time you react, you have lost some altitude. But you do manage to grab a new altitude... to face new challenges.

Challenges will always be there. What matters is your determination to work on them.

    * I'd rather ascend to know what it is to descend...I'd rather fly and die, than stay on ground and fade away...

What matters is that you played the shots and how you played the shots and not whether you won or lost.

    My Black Box Recording:

As I was ascending, I was losing touch with the ground.

When I descended to find the ground, the ground descended farther.

I envied those who had stayed aground.

I wished I had not looked back.

Will let you know the readings
    1) If the truck reaches the destination

    AND

    2) If the cargo safely unloads

    AND

    3) If I can put the plane together

    AND

    4) If the DIY kit did actually have a black box

    AND

    5) I do fly, starring in and as 'The Plane'

    AND

    6) The flight does indeed crash (Who would bother with a blackbox reading otherwise)

Lots of IF conditions with ANDS.

So as the programmer in you knows, it will take a lot to satisfy all the conditions.

well, I'm here now, dead after a decent shot at life on Earth... I was living every day but also dreaming big & learning from the past. Many things may not have happened in life, certain things may not have happened for a long time while few things may have happened once in a while. Whatever the case of my life be, I have lived through them all, climbing high with joy and falling hard with pain yet I had never stayed down. And now am finally here, so tell me God, have I lived a life that you had wanted me to? or did I understood you wrong and screwed it up? p.s. please take care of my loved ones.

    Cheers Keshi...

  97. Nice post babe!i always like it when u try to explain something thru an interesting example. Here the simile is between life and flying an airplane!so true, it is not always possible to fly at the same altitude, sometimes u go so high tht u feel u hav touched the rainbow and sometimes u need to lie low coz of some uninvited turbulence...but never the less its a part of the voyage. One needs to learn to take both into their stride and move ahead in life. Also one needs to realise tht had there not been these low points in life v wudnt understand the importance of the highs of life. :) Well said Keshi! And u dint reply to my comment in the previous post. :( :(

  107. Hi Keshi,
Lovely post. It has such a depth of words in it. I sat back and wondered...'Will I die thinking that I LIVED?' . Sadly the answer would be NO. I am not afraid of heights...I am afraid of being left behind. How can I fly high, when the flock stays back on the ground? How can I swim when my friends are just enjoying the waves against their toes. When I try to venture I get pulled back. When I face fear, I am veiled! The reason I have not LIVED yet is because I am protected. A circle always enveloping me, casually brushing away my dreams, my desires...my LIFE!

Loved the lines...Did you experience the heights to know what the depths were?

Hope my thoughts were not convulated...

    Keep flying...

    Nita.

  109. Right now my Black Box would record me feeling very frustrated with the nature of my life. I have discovered I do not enjoy the modern American life of having a house that takes far more time to care for than I like along with the addiction to material goods and the credit card system that allows you to enter voluntary serfdom to keep up with all the others doing the same thing. Would love to downsize and simplify but my wife and my son are caught up in this lifestyle and because of my sense of duty I won't pull out. Would love to own nothing but a small house and decent car that would allow be to spend more money on traveling and saving.

**I am not afraid of heights...I am afraid of being left behind.

Often the case with many of us. We follow a trend. We r bound by conditions and we limit ourselves. Sadly.

**How can I fly high, when the flock stays back on the ground? How can I swim when my friends are just enjoying the waves against their toes. When I try to venture I get pulled back. When I face fear, I am veiled!

Happens all the time. Even with me. Cos we scared to be a FAILURE in the eyes of OTHERS.

**The reason I have not LIVED yet is because I am protected. A circle always enveloping me, casually brushing away my dreams, my desires...my LIFE!

beautifully put! And thanks for being so honest here.

Nita, all I can say is that it has happened to me to...I was brought up in a secured/conservative/safe culture and family background. I wasnt allowed to do everything I wanted to do in life but I think that too has contributed to my realisation. remember, that itself is a depth we've hit...now we know how lovely it wud be to fly high. :)

"Looking for love in Australia? Book lays out the odds"

    http://www.reuters.com/article/lifestyleMolt/idUSSYD30024720080827

SYDNEY (Reuters Life!) - There's a "man drought" on the Australian coast and a "man dam" in the remote Bush, and if you're a woman in your 80s and looking for love, the odds aren't really in your favor, according to author Bernard Salt.

Demographer Salt's book, "Man Drought" which was released this week, reveals that love is really where you look for it in Australia, and that it pays to go the distance.

"In the old days, we believed Mr or Mrs Right would show up someday, but as we remain single for much longer, and are far more mobile, the chances are more remote," Salt told Reuters.

"You need to get out and broaden your circles," he advises.

From a country that was flush with men some 30 years ago, due to immigration policies that favored males, today's Australian women have it harder than their "baby boomer" sisters.

According to the latest statistics bureau data, there were 96,900 more females than males in Australia as of June 2005.

Salt said the main reason for the man shortage, especially in Australia's coastal cities, was the abundance of women who move from the interior seeking better jobs and lifestyles.

"Single men are concentrated in rural and remote communities whereas single women prefer the city and lifestyle towns," Salt explained. "A generation ago, women were more likely to remain in rural communities." Continued...

    ha ha ha ha....

haha @article! I'd agree with that. There's a huge MAN shortage...mmm...all over the world? LOL!

**"Single men are concentrated in rural and remote communities whereas single women prefer the city and lifestyle towns

I dun agree with that somehow. There r loads of single men in the City..as well as single women. Just that nowadays ppl seem to be committment-phobic!

  153. naah i have a diff view...there are plenty of women in the office complex i work in that i wouldn't mind getting to know better...but the hiccup is even if they like me and i like them from a distance...i dont know them...have no frnz in common with them...and stopping them in mid tracks and sayin hi aint the best way to try and get to know them...

    that is the problem.... :P

  157. My black box would read, just stumbled to reach the destination.
    Journey was reluctantly nder taken.
ALways resistive to take off and land, but never dispised the flight till it last.
The flight was enjoyable as the views were enchanting and co-travellers/co-passenger enjoyed every bit of it.
The flight perhaps needs a black box over hauling. :P

  166. Hi keshi,

    Hello, How are you?

That were some profound thoughts from you. A brilliant post!

I often wish instead of a airplane, we could take our bicylces, we could paddle our way to the skies,(that's not easy) and roll down the other way, with no brakes or restrictions. Simply move with the wind. ENjoy every moment, breathe, and be happy.

Black box : "WOW, what a ride"

this post reminds me of a lovely song from the Film (Pukar) with prabhu deva and madhuri......"Ke sera sera jo bhi ho so ho.. humme pyar ka asara ke sera ..."

    Affectionately,

  167. No matter how much I feel like life is well-lived, I think when it comes to the point of my death, I will surely panic. And my black box will surely show that. Some dreams not complete, some wishes not fulfilled, a desire to land safely, afraid that the landing may be bad, and a need to continue flying. Life has its ups and downs for me and to be honest, I think I have not given it enough thought!! Or maybe, I have and blocked it!

    This was tough Keshi.

  169. Oye.. of course I know its not a real crash scenario.. we cant really talk abt real life crashes unless we intend to do a 9/11.

What I meant was the fact that if ever I was in a sticky situation.. I really cant spell out what I'd do.. except that I wont back off, but atleast give it a decent try.

  180. Circumstances in life...very nicely potrayed Keshi.

If I were to avoid the monster ahead of me, I'd have to stop flying...stop the 'journey' that I was to take, and just be on ground, afraid to take risks and remain 'safe'. But that's not me. ----U inspire me a lot honey.

The post speaks of ur never say attitude.....courage to swim against the tide and reach the coast....

I agree honey..remaining on the ground to escape from a crash is no life.....

    Hugs

  182. ** But there was no other way I'd have done it. If I were to avoid the [Photo]monster ahead of me, I'd have to stop flying...stop the 'journey' that I was to take, and just be on ground, afraid to take risks and remain 'safe'. But that's not me. So, I hoped for the best, I cried a little, I prepared for the worst, then I died knowing that I LIVED. I'd rather ascend to know what it is to descend...I'd rather fly and die, than stay on ground and fade away...

I think these lines says a lot.. :)

Sometimes things happen keshi, we have no control over things and thats the irony... we do our best and yet they happen... leavin us alone, shattered, down n under!!!

it has happened with me too.. leaving me like that, but somehow u and me both took the courage atleast to get up and start walking if not fly.. and i know someday we would be flying again.. and may be together!! :)

    wish u luck darling... u r d best!! :)

exactly wut I mean. we dun need to be flying all the time..there r times when we just hv to walk or even stay still...as long as u've TRIED, thats all that matters.
