Ashes to Ashes...Dust to Dust...

Where did we come from...where do we go? This body oh this body...awaken from dust, only to slumber back into dust. Did you ever think about it? Isn't it ludicrous that we are born into families, taken care of tenderly, made to work hard, build eternal relationships, grow old, face sickness and all of this just to die some day? To be ashes, to be dust...to go back to where we started as? Hold on, is this a joke! No it's not - who lives forever? No one. Good or bad, rich or poor, pretty or ugly, strong or weak, black or white, one thing is guaranteed in life...death. Nothing else in life is as certain as death. As cold as it sounds, it is the frozen truth! And we will never be here again...not the same you...maybe in a different attire but not this 'you' again. Some folks leave early, some leave later...nobody knows why. We all possess the same return ticket, but with diverse durations. Then why, why all the fuss, why the bonds, why the pressure, why the tears, why the whimper, why the trials? After all, if we get only one life, why the momentary content and why the incessant anguish then? I wish I knew the answer but I am afraid I don't. Life is an ephemeral circus. For what do you get at the end of the show - NOTHING. You just have to turn out the lights, the music off, disrobe your colorful costumes and brace yourself while you step out of the ring, leaving behind your kith and kin, with whom you once performed. And when you depart, you cannot take anything with you...for nothing here belongs to you...nothing at all...not your mother, not your father, not your favourite CDs, not your lover, not your money, not your car, not your pride, not even your body. You just turn into ashes...to dust...poof!! You're gone. For dust you are, And to dust you shall return...

In a society that avoids pain at all costs, discovering ones... own course through grief is sometimes a winding road...It is a highly individual process thinkin abt death.. but wid elements, peeps... common to us all... Wht follows are some reflections on my own winding road through loss and grief...n death...
The soul comes from without into the human body... as into a temporary abode... and it goes out of it anew it passes into other habitations... for the soul is immortal...It is the secret of the world that all things subsist and do not die...but only retire a little from sight(dust)... and afterwards return again. Nothing is dead!!! we mortals.. feign THEM dead, and endure mock funerals... and there i bet... THEY stand looking out of the window...all sound and well... in some strange new disguise!!! atleast i wish they do...

Hi Keshi
Nice meeting you via blogs. Your posts are pretty thought provoking. Death is so natural and inevitable just like Taxes.

Diffy enthralling comments there! Thanksss!

I guess I used the word 'die' there to explain the process of slumbering back into dust...note I use the word 'slumber'...meaning it's only a deep sleep :)

Keshi..I myself think a lot about death. Not in a morbid suicidial way,but a mysterious curiosity.I feel that you are right. It's not the END.It's a sleep. And oneday we again have to wake up.

in ur comment u write that 'not this you again'.here u hav got some facts wrong.the 'you' thing always remains.it is your body that changes.the 'you' thing is the soul. u are a soul ....and are covered by a temporary body.why does the change happen can be understood with an example.why do u change ur clothes after 2-3 days. the reason is that they get worn out so u change them.in the same way,the soul leaves bodies that are worn out(or dead in other words) and enters into others that are new.now it may strike u why does the body die.to this the answer is that on earth everything is transitory and this body is an 'earthly' creation. it takes birth on earth(in the mother's womb),lives on earth and then dies here.the soul ,on the other hand, is a part and parcel of the Supreme and it cannot die or change.it enters the body at the time of zygote formation in the mother's womb and then leaves once the body disintegrates(or dies)to enter into new ones.this process of the soul changing bodies continues until it has realized the Supreme(or achieved immortality in other words).------From an anonymous guy who chats on IT n who also happens to be a philosophy student.

Hey Anonymous thanks for that very interesting comment :)

However, in my post, by stating 'not this same you again', who I meant was this costume...this one we're wearing right now. I agree that the 'soul' is immortal, but the 'you' I mean there was the body...this existence. Perhaps I should have used a better word for that instead of 'you'....sorry about the confusion :)

Thanks heaps for clearing it.
Regards
Keshi.

Death; an overrated notion. Merely a departure from one world to another. A state of complete bliss, away from worldly discomforts. Many seek it, too.
Sometimes, what we are most apprehensive of is what we actually long for.
