The Battle

Is losing a hard long fight always a bad thing? I think if you fought the battle with all your heart and strength, then whether you eventually win it or not, you're a winner already. My heart goes out to Belinda Emmett (former 'Home and Away' star and wife of Rove McManus of 'Rove Live'), a 32yr old Aussie actress who died on Sat after a long battle with Cancer. I don't like it when newspapers have titles that read 'Belinda loses battle with Cancer' etc. Cos she did not lose, neither is she a loser. She had an incurable disease so how can you expect the girl to win? No one can. Not even the doctors can help certain patients so we cannot really term it as 'losing the battle'. I like to call it 'surrendering' or maybe 'co-operating' with the disease. Sometimes in life you can't always have things your way. Then you just have to surrender or co-operate. That's what happened with Belinda. She just had to accept her fate and go with whatever plans it had for her. But she didn't go without fighting. That's what really matters. It's not in the ultimate victory where true character resides. It's in the battle. And boy o boy she did alot in that short 32 years - she was a popular actress, she touched many hearts with her beauty and kindness, she fell in love, she got married while she was fighting Cancer, but through all of that, never did she allow Cancer to get to her. That's where her victory is. In life's many other situations, it's the battle that we must concentrate on. For the end results will surely come around some day...but the battle is what you have in hand and there lies your true victory...it is in the strength and heart you put into that battle.

I still remember when I first saw Belinda on 'Home and Away'. She was a natural and she was one of the kindest human beings ever. I hate the fact that someone like her came down with a terrible illness like this and that she had to leave this world at such a tender age. This is the kind of thing that amazes me about life. People are just here only for a while...some for a very short while...and then we go and hurt each other. It's just a big waste of time guys! Last Sat was not such a great day for me. I was having a crappy useless argument in the car with someone close and I wanted to be dropped off then and there, rather than having to put up with that kind of shit. I can be pretty stubborn and if someone don't treat me with respect and that too for no fault of mine, I switch off totally and I want to be left alone. So after being dropped off instantly on the highway as I asked to, I walked down that road with alot of drivers passing me by, giving me strange looks and some men even whistling at me cos it was a strange place for a girl like me to be walking. I felt weird and then rang up a Taxi and asked them to pick me up from the 'nowhere' I was at. I went home shortly after that and heard about Belinda's death on TV, and I was thinking that she would have been breathing her last breaths when all of that shit was happening to me. What a sad life we live and this is mockery at it's best. While some are dying unfair deaths, others are scowling at each other over trivial matters. I wanna be a better person and I think I am already a good person in some ways. But I don't understand why people walk all over me. Maybe cos I allow them to walk all over me. I tried and I tried and I tried...but I can never get some people in my life to appreciate me. It's a battle on it's own and even if I don't win it in the end, I know I tried my best to be loved. And the most important thing is that I appreciated and loved everyone who came across my life and I gave them the respect they deserve no matter what.

With Belinda on my mind, I wanted to say this to all of you. Treat your loved-ones with love and respect - mother, father, sister, brother, friend, neighbor....they are not just labels. They are hearts beating every second, wanting your love and appreciation. If you want love and respect, treat others the same way. You've got to give a little in order to get a little. And battles need to be fought, not necessarily won. We are all fighting many kinds of battles each day...and what matters is that we are fighting without giving up. And when the time is right, it's ok to surrender and that's not losing. It's accepting your fate. And if someone don't appreciate you the way you want them to, then just surrender. Just let it be and do your thing as usual. Never stop appreciating and loving others.

Have you ever cried for a total stranger? I have many times before and now for Belinda. I'll make it upto her...I won't let a single day pass me by without having fun and showing people I care. May Belinda's soul rest in peace! She died being her, giving her 100%. And that's a sure winner.

I dedicate today's music to Belinda's beautiful soul.

UPDATE:
I have updated current music with a video tribute to Belinda that has been done by a youTuber. It captures many memorable moments of Belinda's life and is done with the song Angel by Sara McLachlan. Have a look if you have time.

during a battle if a soldier is killed he or she is considered martyr, i agree with you the news heading could have been, belinda loses her life, she didnt loose he battle, only thing she got killed while fighting, the enemy was strong.
On the other hand I will say her family did loose the battle, they lost the only fighter.

That is true and I never really thought of it that way.

You know what the thing is? After a death, we can appreciate life a little more, but the sad thing is, as time passes, we forget to appreciate. And we end up going back to our simple way of living.

I put a story of a hero on "Thoughts."

I am doing very well now. thanks for your kind words.

Sad news indeed. Cancer claims young and old alike. This is why I joined the cancer fighting team I did. We may not find a cure for our friends or even our children, but I do believe the work we do today leads the way for a better chance for our grandchildren.

Take care my dear southern angel.

hey you!
We are all different and it is sometimes its totally unfair to compare some one else to us... we cannot look at some one who was ill and say that we ought to be happier... we just have to say "I ought to be happy"
people walk all over us, because we allow them to.. that is so true..
Just don't think of it like that. Become immune to it. But it does hurt when a loved one does that... and in those times I guess it is ok to react.. even if it means being stubborn... Guess that lets them know that it bothers you that much.

Cheers Mayt!

Hi Keshi,

This is a real heartfelt post.! You have taken the example of Belinda and taught a lesson so beautiful and yet so essential to our lives. We need to fight our battles always and see to it that even if we don`t stay, we atleast reach out to those loved ones. We will never lose a battle that way..

Thanks for posting..!

It would be nothing but pure stupidity to say that she lost a battle against cancer. Only the ignorant speak thus.

Why cancer? Life itself is an incurable disease! From the very moment we are born on earth, we all begin fighting a battle that is destined to end with our death.

Cancer or not, our earthly forms will die. I don't think that makes us loosers.

Most of the time, these people don't even know what the **** they are talking about. What a shame!

Thank you so much for visiting my blog! Now I have come to read yours and I find you hurting. Yes, I have cried over the death of someone I didn't know. Many times. I think we are better people when we can feel deeply, even about someone we never met. I'd like to suggest something to you -- I think perhaps it will help bring about a very big change in your life if you'll watch it. Go to amazon.com and type in the DVD title "The Secret" and order that movie. Honestly...it's life-changing. Let me know if you do -- I'd love to talk about it with you. Bless your heart...you just keep demanding respect and rejecting those who refuse to give it to you. Keep that chin up and do come and visit me again anytime!

Keshi... I have been saying this for years... it is NOT a battle. People don't say she battled with heart disease, she battled with MS, etc. It is a tragedy that anyone has to suffer this wretched disease.

Sadly I have buried too many friends of my age and younger, much younger from this. Only last week another one, and this week another has slipped into her final coma, and I am waiting on news about a friend's baby who has been sent home.

None of us knows what tomorrow will bring. There is so much suffering in the world on an individual level and on a global scale and we should count our blessings and be thankful for all the good things in our life and pray for the fortitude, courage and dignity to deal with the bad.

lotsa luv ann xxxxx

Yes, why do they all write Lost the Battle...no one looses a battle they did not start. Its the situations in life that got us into problems. She was a brave woman to go through life starring at death. She managed to live a satisfying life because she was brave. And she knew one day things might ho bad, but she also knew it all could turn good. May God bless the souls departed too early to know the world.

You are honest and open. People think you are too open, dont let them be. Try to take out the emotions in your life that are too complacent to people who make ur life miserable. Have and give longer timeouts so that you can find wats wrong with their characters. The loosing battle is not yours, but theirs.

I do cry for other people, from sports to movies to real life deaths on TV. Its called being human, we are and we will always be one.

Hugs dear.

Know your own worth and dont value yourself at other's people's evaluation is what I think I told someone close this morning.:)

Keshi: We can never stop the media hype when they go with all odd news. Only that person knows the suffering and pain and how can that be said as a loser. When she fights to keep her life back to track its not lost battle but a winning step for her success.

We all have positive and negative energy and we have to keep going. Death can come to anyone, but when people suffer for years, their inner self is very silent looking for a light.

It is awful when someone so young is taken...we should live each day as if it were our last (carpe diem) but our brains (and our friends) can't accomodate such on the edge behavior. We need to finish mappping the human genome so that we can give people a fighting chance against diseases.

So Keshiroo you have a little stubborn streak do ya?

Indeed a positive message so well written to make each of ur readers know that life offers many challenges, the ultimately being death itself.

We are sometimes called upon pain, suffering, loss, and grief that may seem impossible to handle.

But i trust, that love for oneself and our dear ones who love us, we learn to face the challenges, and lift them like great Brave hearts...

You have a brave heart, and you taught many here to keep one .

Sometimes even I keep on cribbing on the little things n forget to live the God bless you. May Belinda rest in peace.

Death is the one thing which I am horrified of… I don’t want a single person I know to die before me :(.

I agree she hasn't lost her fight against Cancer, she has shone path so that other come out and fight against Cancer and be Victorious.
Kylie Minogue for example.

Sorry If I sound harsh but why is dying a punishment? Ever thought of that? Only because it has been labeled as such to keep mankind under the control of fear. Dying is as part of life as life itself, only the natural order of it. How one dies can be a punishment though, but then again life is so endlessly wise that we can be certain any suffering a person goes through has to do with karma. We are responsible for every single moment of our lives, every single experience we have we drew ourselves into. Karma can be from this lifetime or from a prior one, so when tragedy happens to people and they wonder, oh why them? That's the answer.
The only really important battle one fights in life is the battle with one's ego. A winner, at a soul level, is one who managed to fullfil its life's purpose in spite of all. That is the real test and the real strengh of the soul.

People just sound so weak and lost I cannot help but open my big mouth. Open your eyes and start seeing life for what it really is.

The real concern we should all have is preserving life on planet earth on the long run, is that feasible at the rate we are going? Now, that would be a real tragedy and the defeat of mankind.

Very well written.. I agree its not so much loosing a battle as it is making the best of the time u have left..
You can be surly and bitter at loosing out on the rest of your life
or u can fit it into the time u have left and make the best of it.
I know easier said for me but still

thats so true! ppl alwasys think this life is forever. They have such a hold on it that most dun realise it until it's too late to make use of the time here.

Saby it's Belinda's funeral today.

**but living cud be a living death too

I agree.

**but its worse if your lover also nags

heheheh :):) Where have u been these days? Naggin some other blogger?

Tarun hello!

**Those people whom God love, die young.

I agree. Its ALWAYS the case! And Belinda was not just a celebrity...o.w. I wudnt be making a post just for her. She really is a very down-to-Earth Aussie girl and was sooo sweet. She had something abt her that got us all hooked on to her. She was a genuine heart. A rare thing to find in showbiz.

**I agree she hasn't lost her fight against Cancer, she has shone path so that other come out and fight against Cancer and be Victorious.
Kylie Minogue for example.

So true! Belinda did so many things to help Cancer victims in the few years she was fighting it. She reached out to so many! And she died on the day Kylie came back to showbiz after her long break getting treatment for her cancer!

Neers heyyy haha Im just a brunette :):) tnxxx!

LetsF#ck hello!

**Sorry If I sound harsh but why is dying a punishment?

To me it is. Cos I have lost alot of loved-ones and to live w.o. them is hell. Lets get realistic...no one wants to die or have their loved-one dying, now do we?

**Dying is as part of life as life itself, only the natural order of it.

true but the unknown nature of death scares ppl.

**we can be certain any suffering a person goes through has to do with karma.

mebbe....

**Karma can be from this lifetime or from a prior one, so when tragedy happens to people and they wonder, oh why them? That's the answer.

But not everyone believes in this theory so it's hard for everyone to resolve to that explanation n make up their mind. We can only see this life and this life's experiences. So when a bad thing happens to a good person, ppl do get upset and it seems very unfair.

**That is the real test and the real strengh of the soul.

yeah I agree.

**People just sound so weak and lost I cannot help but open my big mouth. Open your eyes and start seeing life for what it really is.

yes but surely u cant expect ppl to be dancing when someone dies. It's a sad event.

**The real concern we should all have is preserving life on planet earth on the long run, is that feasible at the rate we are going?

I think this is altogether another post :)

**You can be surly and bitter at loosing out on the rest of your life or u can fit it into the time u have left and make the best of it.

I'd do that for sure. If I were ever diagnosed witha terminal illness, I'd just gather up all my courage and just live one minute at a time. Just like how Belinda did it. Just enjoy whatever time that has been given. And that's exactly what she said in a TV interview.

**Sorry If I sound harsh but why is dying a punishment?

To me it is. Cos I have lost alot of loved-ones and to live w.o. them is hell. Lets get realistic...no one wants to die or have their loved-one dying, now do we?

RE- Darling we'll ALL die. Death is just a change, not a loss. Your soul and spirit go on living, only it goes to different dimentions we not always, or I should say, most of the times are not aware of.
Try to learn to let them go, it's easier for a soul to move on when they know their loved ones are at peace. You should be content knowing that they could finally rest (if they were struggling or in pain).

**Dying is as part of life as life itself, only the natural order of it.

true but the unknown nature of death scares ppl.

RE- And it is because we live our lives caught in an illusion. That same fear control factor I mentioned in my post has caused the illutionist trap we live in. Our challenge is to realise this and start living life in-tunned with all our bodies, not just the tangible one. Once humans evolve to this understanding the fear of the unknown that is associated with death will cease.
I would suggest prayer and meditation for someone facing moments like this. Get in-tunned with your higher beings.

**we can be certain any suffering a person goes through has to do with karma.

mebbe....

RE- Everything has a correlation. Everything has a cause and an effect. The tragedies of this planet have been caused by its inhabitants, not by the planet itself. Evolution, evolution and evolution, that was the original purpose, not this attachment to the material and temporary.

RE- Well, it's the task of those enlightenned to try and lead the rest into the light (however redundant that might sound).

**That is the real test and the real strengh of the soul.

yeah I agree.

RE- Once we understand ourselves for what we really are we will begin to live our lives in touch with our higher self (soul-spirit).

**People just sound so weak and lost I cannot help but open my big mouth. Open your eyes and start seeing life for what it really is.

yes but surely u cant expect ppl to be dancing when someone dies. It's a sad event.

RE- No, I can't but I can at least try and make them realise the only tragedy is to keep on being blind. That sadness they feel is because they don't understand. Surelly you'll miss someone dear, but life goes on both for you and for them.

**The real concern we should all have is preserving life on planet earth on the long run, is that feasible at the rate we are going?

I think this is altogether another post :)
