Fair Dinkum Masti!

I was at the India Australia Friendship Fair held yesterday at the Sydney Olympic Park. It was one fantastic show held on behalf of India's 60th Independence Day celebrations. We got seats at the VIP pavilion for no special reason woohoo! So we were very close to the stage and saw all the dances and also Aussie cricketer BRETT LEE (who was a special guest) close-up! He came to give away some prizes. There were BEAUTIFUL dances from various parts of India, fashion shows, Bollywood masala, Bhangra, food, clothes, stalls of all sorts, firewroks, boys mm mmm etc etc. There was a massive crowd..I could almost say that there's one whole India in Sydney itself now :). Such a big crowd! It was a great mixture of culture, colors, performances and the spirit of people from India and Australia, living together in harmony. I attend this fair every year and here are some pics from it from last year...yesterday's pics haven't been uploaded as yet (I will link those pics to this post as soon as they upload them). Hope you all had a colorful weekend too!

This song is one of my fav Punjabi dance numbers. Let me know what you think. Enjoy! (sorry I updated that song with another fav :))
btw if anyone is wondering what Fair Dinkum means, it's Aussie slang for GENUINE...and Masti means FUN in Hindi. So u work out the title now.

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY TO ALL MY INDIAN MATES HERE!

Hi,Keshi-wow..you're soo lucky to have seen the India Australia Friendship Fair up close.Lovely pics- you know, I always feel such fairs are very attractive wherever and whenever they're held.People turn up in their best, and, you see lots of talent on display, too, besides the vivid megamix of colours.Which was your favourite part of the Fair, btw?

Keshi said...

lol Sujit...thats cos I didnt take these pics..its from United Indian Assoc. website...and they havent uploaded yday's pics yet..when they do (which will be soon), I'll link it to this post :)

Hows u? n ty for the call. I missed it :(

Keshi.

Keshi said...

Hi Amit ty!

I agree..it was GREAT to see that alot of young Indians have so much talent and havent quite forgotten their roots even if they live in Aus.

My fav part of the fair?

well I loved all of it too much :) Usually I love it when the Punjab boys come out to do the Bhangra in their traditional attire...I just LOVE it. They r SUPERB!

But I must say my fav part this year was a dance by a Rajastani group of girls n boys. IT WAS UNBELIEVABLE! The music and the moves..I was dancing in my seat :) And it reminded me of Poo...my darling friend Puja who comes from Rajastan.

Jim heyy!

**Indians living in Australaya are like adopted children

This is all u cud say here? Thats sad. Cos in the wake of Indian Independence, u should be proud of many Indians working and living ard the world in peace n harmony. So this is not what u shoud really be saying here! what u said actually does ur country bad.

**if there was a cricket match (or war) btw India and Autralaya whom wud u cheer for?

Thats upto the Individual isnt it? Does it really matter all that much? After all its only a game. And when Indians failed to get to the WC finals this time, didnt most Indians diss the team? WHY? Aussie Indians here didnt do that u see. They were still VERY proud of their team.

**Indians living in Autralaya must show allegiance to the Australayan flag

Yes and thats fine! Cos they have made Aus their home now. So should that make them feel like their letting down their own country? NO.

Jim ppl move ard the world based on their individual needs and wants...and it is upto them to choose a country where they wanna call home. But that doesnt make them alien to their own motherland or make em traitors!

it's ppl like u with aged n skewed opinions that make most of the probs in this world. So much patriotism that it mars proper thinking.

**its only fair
u dont kick your foster father or mother

bahhhhhhh! Foster? Aus didnt force these Indians to live here. It was those Indians' choice to be here. Get that right first. Just cos u didnt wanna go overseas, that doesnt mean everyone's needs r the same as ur's.

And drop the racist attitude! U call all Westerners racist but hv a good look at urself and the way u talk! Mebbe u should pay ur country some respect than this..by realising we r all HUMANBEINGS after all. Not just Indian, Aussie or American!

-----------------------------------

Hi Keshi

Love the pics and the cultural mix.

You asked how a person can talk another person into self-destruction.

It can be done by slowly wearing the other person down to a point where they think their life is worthless.

It takes a long period of time to get a person to this state, but it can be done.

In India the muslims burst crackers when India looses to Pakistan

and Bal Thackeray sees red
its great funn watching an India Pakistan match with an Indian Muslim

Keshi said...

Jim..

**its great funn watching an India Pakistan match with an Indian Muslim

if India itself is divided, then u hv no right to question abt Aus Indians.

The movie CHAK DE stars SRK as the coach of the the Indian womens hockey team

its a true story based on the real life of the coach who coached the Indian team that lost to Pakistan

He was branded as a traitor
thats how he landed up coaching womens hockey team

SRK feels very deeply as a Muslim Indian

His loyalty is suspect even though he married Gauri a Hindu

Nadine said...

Happy Day to you. Great pics.

Keshi said...

Jim d u know Chak De was shot in Syd too? I was supposed go see SRK filming it cos ppl were allowed to watch it...then I cudnt go :(

**His loyalty is suspect even though he married Gauri a Hindu

u mean suspicious? so how does his loyalty to India matter to anyone else? Isnt that his own business?

Keshi.

Keshi said...

deepsat said...

Keshi said...

Jim how many times do I hv to tell ya that it wud be Sri Lanka!!

-----------------------------------

Deepz :) thats true with any nation...I mean when there's a festival, it higlights the best features of a culture. But it doesnt happen in daily life.

Keshi.

Keshi said...

**highlights

Jim said...

it definitely is Inia's business
SRK and the other Khans earn hundreds of croes in India

whereas in Pakistan Bolly wood movies are banned

Jim said...

TRAITOR !
u r kicking the mother who feeds u
and gives u a good life

in Sri Lanka u wud earn only 10 % of what u earn in AUS

Keshi said...

Jim u got ur head buried in the sand.

**it definitely is Inia's business
SRK and the other Khans earn hundreds of croes in India

yes thats right but SRK is not getting any of that for free, is he? He's getting all that money for all the talent he has and for all the promotion India is receiving becos of him! Did u even think of that? ur only worried abt wut u give..u didnt think abt wut u get from SRK!

**whereas in Pakistan Bolly wood movies are banned

so who cares. its their problem isnt it. And neither r they getting anything from SRK to promote Pakistan. So wuts the issue here? dun whinge for almost everything Saby!

Its really not something Im gonna feel sorry abt...cos Im where I am today due to all the hard work I did. And I wont let anyone tell me that I have it easy here! Cos I went thru hell studying here n trying to get a job etc. ITS NOT EASY anywhere. YOU hv to work urself to where u wanna be. So dun blame a country for ur misfortunes. Blame urself.
